Used to go here as a kid and visiting again after years brought back so many good memories. It was always a family favourite for the same reasons I enjoyed it on this visit. Very attentive and efficient staff (five or six servers said goodbye to us upon leaving which felt really warm and friendly of them too). Decor is unique and intricate with a beautiful dragon and cloud ceiling piece. The lighting is lovely and dim - not harsh or bright. The food is the best chinese Iāve ever had. The chips are extremely crispy and fresh as well as the chicken ball batter. The portions are a little small but the price reflects this and itās definitely reasonable for the quality of food - just get a portion of chips alongside rice/sauce and meat or veg main meal. The chicken sweet corn soup and banana fritters were fantastic too as always. One of Glasgowās hidden gems and itās nice to see a long standing family run business still so busy and successful after the pandemic. Would 1000% recommend and although I donāt live in Glasgow at the moment, Iāll be visiting everytime I return home.
Due to the fact that itās up a steep set of stairs, Iām not sure if itās wheelchair accessible for those who need it so thatās maybe a necessary consideration for some guests...
Read moreAttended for Birthday Lunch on 6 Jan '19. There were 17 of us in the group. We were surprised to be asked to pay for our drinks upfront. But were told this was due to number in our group and to avoid confusion! The waitress then took the order for our meal and on completion asked us to pay upfront again. I questioned this and said i had never been asked such on previous visits there or at any other Dining establishments. She shrugged and stated it was the Manager's decision i asked to speak to him and we were then told we could pay after Lunch. The food was okay starters were quite small and Mains acceptable not anything extrordinary. Was surprised no Mocktails on drinks Menu. A family member was charged 50p for container to take food away. The cost of the meal was approx £160. The experience was sorely disappointing due to the demands for payment up front and bad attitude and hostile waiters and waitress. We occasionally previously lunched at the China Sea but all those present agreed they would not return after this dismal dinning experience. Definately not geared for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreServing size is good if you go for a 2 course meal, there are limited options though. Nothing surprisingly good or extraordinary about the restaurant, most dishes taste average and look average, which is okay for the price as the menu is not too expensive compared to other similar options in the city.
Huge seating area so not a big problem getting a table without reservation, can't say about Friday evenings though. Staff were friendly and very respectful which is rare nowadays in big restaurants.
Entrance to the restaurant is slightly off, a bit shady in the middle of nowhere and looks like you're entering a small residential building. When you do enter the main door and take the stairs up it'll lead you to the restaurant (you ll know when you see the staff at the door to the restaurant).
Proper covid measures were taken with sanitizing our hands at the entrance and all the staff wearing masks, which is again a good thing to see at most continental food restaurants...
