Mandarin Garden — Restaurant in Scotland

Avoid at all costs! Absolutely shocking service and told blatant lies by staff. First, they told me my order left at 8pm 25 minutes after it should have been delivered. Secondly when I phoned back as my food still hadn't arrived after another 35 minutes. I was told that the manager wasn't in the restaurant, another blatant lie as he is the head chef, and the delivery driver told me he was in the restaurant. The member of staff had no idea when the manager was going to be in. The only good part of the experience was the delivery driver, who was very polite and apologetic for a situation caused by the incompetence of the restaurant staff and all their blatant lies. The delivery driver showed me the text he received to say my order was ready 20 minutes after they told me my order had left. This restaurant doesn't deserve to have such an excellent driver. I was also told they hold the orders back until they get another order in the same direction. If you can't fulfill the orders, you shouldn't take them. The food wasn't even worth waiting for. I...

In short, great Sichuan and Hunan food can be had here but you have to ask for the Chinese menu, which is a bit embarrassing I think…

I was hesitant to give Mandarin Garden five stars… the meal we had was excellent - Morning Glory in Preserved Tofu sauce (炒腐乳空心菜) duck in beer sauce (啤酒鴨) and Fish in preserved Vegetables (酸菜鱼). Unfortunately, we nearly had none of this as the menu we were given initially was limited to the standard British Chinese fare… we had to ask ‘is this the whole menu’… Thankfully, the kind wait staff informed us ‘we also have a Chinese menu’ and brought that around with chopsticks and bowls. I’m left completely torn… if this excellent food is available, why not market it? Especially when similar places in Dundee, such as the excellent Manchurian, provide a full menu from the beginning?

I’m happy that it’s so easy to get reasonably priced, excellent Sichuan and Hunan cuisine in Dundee, so close to the DCA and other hotspots… but don’t make me ask for a special...

• 1 fork full out the tubs and it all went in the bin* 1 star is possibly 1 too many. First of all I was made to feel guilty for the position of my house not being on the main street of where I live. The food gets brought in my house after my son going out in the rain to find the delivery driver and what can only be described as boxes of tastless slime was in the boxes. Beef stir fry was slimy and had no colour to it. The prawns in cheese garlic and onion sauce were slimy soggy and the only taste to it was heavy garlic, the cheese sauce was almost transparent. And ribs were 2 of the smallest ribs cut into tint pieces which were meant to be spicy, my 6 year old ate one and didn't get any heat from it spat ot out and said it tasted of nothing. And the noodles to accompany said prawns left the most disgusting after taste.£25.00 for boxes of tasteless slim is not my idea of a good experience, oh well off to jimmy...
