So disappointing! I have loved Waga's since I first discovered it in London round about 2006 and I always recommend it as a safe, dare I say, exciting, "chain" choice. They are great on dietary requirements and allergies and the staff are usually great fun and really invested in your enjoyment of your meal and your experience. I know from talking to staff in various locations that the company are heavily invested in staff development and customer delight, so whats wrong at Sheffield Leopold Square?
Even though the restaurant wasn't busy, we were greeted with a bit of an attitude and sense of urgency, we were pretty much marched to a table and seated with some other diners; no choice here. Although we are very familiar with the usual Waga's experience, the host didn't bother to explain the ordering system or ask if we needed any assistance in ordering. A cursory comment about who our server would be was missed, but the host had already disappeared without introducing her. The server came and took our order and to her credit was very pleasant and hospitable, she took our order but failed to ask one simple question that we should have also picked up on, "Do you want everything serving together, or in order?" Again, to be fair to her, we got the impression that she was a brand spanking new member of the team.
So the first thing to arrive were our excellent Ginger no-jito's, which I can thoroughly recommend; if they decide to bottle this and sell it as a side-line, Ill be ordering it by the case. Then came my Ramen main, then the crazily over salted, blood pressure inducing Edamame, then the dry rubbery stick things masquerading as Chilli Squid, then my guests curry, then cooked to a pulp Bang Bang Cauliflower. Across the dishes it has to be said that the meal was awful, with the Edamame, Squid and Cauliflower bordering on inedible, but at no point during the meal or when we were paying the bill did anyone ask if we had any issues of if we had enjoyed our meal!
Sorry Wagamama's, but this was a huge fail and if it had been my first experience then I certainly would not be coming back, and as it is, I will now have to be very cautious about recommending the brand.
A very poor experience in the eatery that I thought was a bomb proof recommend to friends...
Read moreAwful experience! So so rude. Staff said there was a 5 minute wait for a table which we were fine with, but didn’t shut the door that we had to wait next to so was stood in the cold which we thought wasn’t great etiquette. Told us would be about a 30 min wait for food as there wasn’t ending kitchen staff on a Saturday night. Food took 50 minutes. Also we ordered a starter and when I took a bite it was burned and it was just pure batter. The women said that it’s because it was just the scraps that were left and was so blasé about it and said there is nothing she can do so we got it taken off the bill. No apology. My main wasn’t supposed to be spicy but it was really hot and wasn’t enjoyable. Had to wait 10 mins to complain as there was no staff around. We had a baby with us that needed a disabled toilet/changing room and was told they didn’t have the key for the door and didn’t know what to suggest for us. Another woman came over and said she will try find a solution, they managed to go to the bar next door to get the key. The poor baby was so tired from all of the wait. Once we paid and tried to leave the women stood in front of our pram and stopped us from leaving by saying we haven’t paid. Once we had shown on our bank that we had paid she said oh yeah. No apology again. To go back to what I said the table next to us got identical food to us and it was perfect and they got their food within the 30 minutes. Absolutely disgusted by the service we received there and will definitely not be going back. Will be sending an email to...
Read moreMy friend and I visited in the late evening. The lady serving us was very nice and polite, so no complaints about service in that sense. Food was ok, they have an extensive vegetarian/vegan menu. And green tea is complimentary. However, my friend ordered a dish and asked for extra spice, which they didn't add, and had to bring her sauce from the kitchen to add herself. There was also a fairly large gap between my food and hers being brought out.
We had 2 green teas each, according to the server the first ones we had weren't brewed properly, we received an apology for that too. It was not busy, there were only 3 tables taken (around 10 people), but there appeared to be 3 chefs. During our visit, some staff members set up tables to do some sort of prep work. Which is fair. But the lack of attention to the spice in the meal/tea/gap between meals makes me think that making sure set up for the next day is done holds more importance than the later customers orders.(looking at you bosses!) Having worked in fast food, I realise that closing procedures can take over a little bit, but i still expect it to be spot on if im a paying customer. At £9-£14 for a main meal its not the cheapest place to eat. Portions were average, pretty tasty. 50/50 that id...
