After hearing very good reviews for a long time, I was looking forward to a works meal which was organized with a small group of close colleagues and partners. The food was excellent. Unfortunately that's where the good news ends. The service was terrible. On entering before getting to our table we were asked "where's the other two?", to which we replied we think they're running a little late (we arrived five minutes before the sitting), the response was "well I hope they hurry up as we have a lot of parties tonight". Drinks were dumped on the table, not once were we asked if we were ok for drinks etc. Our friends who were five minutes late hadn't even got to the table before having to confirm their pre order. When finishing up, we asked have you got the last sitting now then, to which the response was "oh God no, I've been here all day, you're the last sitting". So not only were we rushed for nothing, we were told they were rushing because of more parties, which were never coming. Unfortunately this definitively left all the positive reviews I've heard about here, completely null and void. Thankfully the good company and the food at the time made the meal enjoyable and look forward to our next meal...
Read moreSuch a mixture - when the food was good, it was extremely good, but when it wasn't, then it was really quite poor. We were a large-ish party, and so sampled between us a variety of dishes.
To begin with the good: anything with mussels was much appreciated (small but tender seafood); the steaks were reported to be good meat, well cooked; and the veal cutlet was superb.
A starter of asparagus and poached egg was said to be bland, and bass was dry. The Lyonnaise potatoes were anaemic (much less golden than one would expect), over-salted, and short of onions. There's an irony there as Lyon is the city I'd most associate with a "Bouchon".
But the worst was a French onion soup that seemed to have been made with the wrong stock, and which again had too much salt and too few onions.
Service was friendly enough, but seemed hurried (forgiveable on a busy evening). And the napkins didn't befit what the restaurant is aiming to be.
All-in-all, anyone might have a perfectly super meal here, but equally some dishes could be much better. We'd definitely go back, and maybe next time it'll...
Read morePopped in before theatre. Was accommodated despite the table being needed for a later sitting, but unlike some places, the waiter was very good at still making us welcome and explaining the reasoning and the time we would be needed to vacate by. The menu was very good, and indeed my daughter and I struggled to choose, but both went for the fish of the day. The cooking was truly exceptional, presentation very nice, with the sauce really complimenting the fish. I did hear one table who asked for an opinion on their choice being told that their two options were so different the waiter couldn't help. A simple explanation of the dishes and a bit of an opinion would have been nice. The trainee waitress on her first night was shadowing and was very pleasant and being well trained, but please tell her to not wear enormous fake eyelashes. A last bit of feedback would be, for the price, a proper napkin is expected. The current paper napkins are of a lower quality than Macdonald's and are not comparable with a lovely establishment serving food of...
