We visited here on Saturday after being recommended by a few friends, we were staying the weekend in Cardiff, so thought we’d pop in before the weekend celebrations commenced. ordered the surf and turf sticks for starters, and the lamb burger for mains. Service was great. Lovely staff. The starter was great, the main was very bland, chips unseasoned and the burger very dry. The staff did ask was everything ok, and as is brits always do, ‘it’s lovely, thank you’ , however, it’s not the taste of the food I had an issue with. After leaving, we checked in to an hotel, and an hour or so later I started getting the sweats, just thought maybe it was a little too humid so left for some fresh air. We went to a local bar, wasn’t feeling great suddenly so just had a lemonade, within an hour of being in the bar, I started feeling worse and had to leave. Within seconds of leaving, I was vomiting in the middle of the street uncontrollably, it was awful, embarrassing, the entire meal came back up. I spent the rest of the evening tucked up in bed, whilst constantly howering around the toilet in fear of being sick. Something in that meal wasn’t right. I have no allergies, or intolerances, and zero alcohol was consumed. It was my first meal of the day. It ruined what was supposed to be a weekend of celebrations, my partner did go in the following day, just to explain, (as I was once again vomiting in Wetherspoons toilets) that I was ill, he’s not a ‘complainer’ - he just wanted to make them aware that, I was sick, it was all Iv eaten, and they may wanna check the batch, just incase other folk had the same reaction as me. They were apologetic, however, said that they’d asked if I had any allergies or tolerances (which I haven’t), and said that she inspected the food herself and it was fine. I mean, of course, I understand, she may have inspected, but she didn’t have to taste it like I did. It just seemed like no accountability, not even in the slightest, to her there was ZERO chance it was the food that made me ill. Which I know, it was. As I said, she apologised and wished me well, however, for nearly £100 between us, a thrown up meal, and an entire wasted hotel trip away, I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth. I just hope in future they listen, we wasn’t out for anything ‘free’ - we just wanted them to know so nobody else would have to feel the way I did...
Read moreFrom the start communication was fantastic. Phone and email, very fast replies and helpful information. When me and my party arrived to sit at 5pm we were all excited as it was the first time we had been to Daffodil and had nothing but good reviews. Sadly that never lasted, we had the private Windsor room because there was 13 of us. The room was very cold and had random things being stored in there. We were hoping it would warm up as the evening went on but it did not. The table we sat on had no cutlery or condiments to hand. We had to wait so long for certain things others had finished their meals while others waited for sauce etc. We ordered extra (that never arrived) due to food portions being VERY little, on menu described the lamb as a rack of lamb, I had two very small cutlets of meat along side 3 half’s of potatoes and baby shallots and cut up green beans. The taste of the food was lovely just the value for money is actually a joke. My starter I had bruschetta, the worst bruschetta I’ve ever tasted. A piece of non-toasted bread with just chopped tomatoes. Nothing else. My dessert was lemon posset it was very tasty the best out of the 3. When we asked for more cutlery because obviously there wasn’t enough, why in God’s name would we ask for more otherwise? We had a reply from a young woman saying there should be enough. Overall experience was not happy and will not visit daffodil again. That stands for all...
Read moreWent for pre show snack Friday 27th June, we had reserved in advance so were shown straight to our table by an engaging friendly waitress. A quick look at the wine list and settled on a bottle of Viognier from Chile, which at £25 was very good value for money as it was very enjoyable. We only wanted a light bite so chose a selection of small dishes and starters, the pork belly bits were astoundingly good, so much so that we ordered a second portion, the chorizo scotch egg was very well presented and tasty, the Welsh rarebit croquettes were slightly disappointing as lacking the punch I was expecting, a bit more mustard and stronger cheese flavour is needed to make them very good, but the spiced pear chutney that accompanied them was very tasty, so much so I put it on the scotch egg too instead of the apple sauce that accompanied it. The antipasti selection was also very good and flavoursome but a bit overloaded with cannelloni beans and could have done with olive oil or balsamic vinegar to go with the great sourdough bread. All in all very enjoyable experience with some great flavours, good service and great value for money. We will definitely be coming back when going out for a full meal, as the little taster we had...
