My wife and I discovered Russell’s of Broadway today when searching the local area for some good food options. Upon seeing some places with celebrity chefs attached to them had consistently poor reviews we decided to skip those and look elsewhere.
Fortunately our next move was the right move. When we entered Russell’s of Broadway we were greeted by the vibrant Carina who had us sat very quickly. Carina was fun, welcoming and took the our dining experience up a level with her 5 star service.
As we had not looked at the venue online prior to our arrival we were absolutely wowed by that standard of our starters when they arrived. I had the Bubble and Squeak and my wife had the Goats Cheese Cheesecake. Both dishes were plated beautifully as can be seen in our pictures and the tastes and textures were so comforting and amazing.
I tend not to have roast dinners when out, I’m a firm believer that it’s hard to beat the one you do at home or the one you grew up with but upon seeing that other diners were having them and they looked spectacular I decided to have the pork roast dinner while my partner had the chicken. Both choices had everything you could ever want from a great roast dinner, great quality meats cooked to perfection, abundant vegetables that were packed with flavour and of course, roast potatoes that were flawlessly crispy on the outside and fluffy in the centre. Topping off all of this is what I assume was a demi-glace gravy but I could be wrong there, regardless it was the perfect consistency and was rich with umami flavours.
We will definitely be returning as...
Read moreI'm not sure entirely sure what has happened to the restaurant? We live up the road and have been here on a number of occasions and the experience has always been brilliant in the past. Amazing food. But today, Sunday, the food was absolutely terrible.
No complaints about the staff and location. As always attentive, great hosts, but the food. Wow! It was nothing more than any standard fare you'd get at any other pub on a Sunday. I opted for the Turkey and the good lady got the Beef. The meat looked like the standard, processed kind you get at the deli' with a couple of slices cut off and put in the oven. I was really looking forward to some actual Turkey and some real beef. I wasn't sure if it was because it was Sunday and an impetuous to turn tables quickly that the food was rather unimpressive? It was a stark contrast to our usual experience.
Reading some of the other reviews it sounds like the restaurant may have changed hands recently? and, if it has, the quality of the food has certainly gone down hill.
You're paying the local "Broadway Tax" especially at Russells. I was expecting so much more than uninspired meat, 1 carrot, 3 brussels and something that was supposed to...
Read moreWe stayed in one of the rooms upstairs at Russell's and also ate in the Restaurant. Firstly the room. Tastefully decorated, spacious and well positioned room with a very comfortable bed. The view of Broadway High Street and Broadway Tower in the distance were a bonus. If I were being hyper critical I would say the armchairs could do with replacing or a refurb at least, to bring them up to the quality of everything else in the room. There is a green safety light that glows quite brightly when the lights are off which can disturb your sleep. I can see that they have tried to dim it down with tape but needs more work I would say.
The Restaurant. Food, drink and service was all fantastic. We had 3 courses and wine and all were excellent. I am told the bitter chocolate tartlet is the best thing ever, can't confirm as I didn't get to taste it myself! 😀 We also had breakfast which was served in the restaurant. Again can't fault the quality of the food or the friendliness of the service.
In summary a great visit to a quality establishment with friendly not stuffy staff. Able to relax and enjoy the surroundings without feeling out of place. Definitely will be back...
