The incredibly rude staff here is what earned my 1 star review. We only had tea and it was fine, so if that’s all you’re looking for then I suppose this would be fine.
Our first rude encounter was when we asked for 2 takeaway teas - this place has a large sign out front that says takeaway and takeaway menus right inside the door - but the hostess was obviously annoyed that we asked for takeaway and had to leave to check if they were too busy to make 2 cups of hot tea to go. They were very busy however so I understand.
The real problem came when I was waiting in line for the restroom which is right next to the kitchen. A very elderly couple was waiting in line (likely in their 90s) was in front of me, and the woman went in but didn’t know to lock the door. It was taking awhile but everyone in line was patient. A waitress came over and without asking anyone if there was someone in the restroom (as though we were all too stupid to think to check if it was being used), just threw the door open and was shocked to find this elderly woman using the restroom. Rather than apologizing, she laughed and began to talk badly about the woman saying “why wouldn’t you lock the door” and just being mean. The elderly woman’s husband was literally right behind her, also waiting in line, listening to all of this. I also overheard her talking about several customers in the restaurant about their “weird” orders…just overall mean and unnecessary, especially when half the restaurant can hear you. When the elderly couple left, she started talking more about them and laughing about how the husband could hear her making fun of his wife.
We didn’t eat anything but I would not go back after witnessing so many rude interactions in a span...
Read moreVisited recently with my husband and sister who is a wheelchair user. I called prior to visiting to enquire about accessibility for wheelchair users and was told.. its no problem at all if the ramp isn't out pop inside and someone will put it out for you.
We arrived in Broadway and had a walk around then headed to Tisanes for our afternoon tea. No ramp so my husband went inside and asked if the ramp could be put out. It might be a few minutes .. we said thank you no problem. Then a middle aged woman with shoulder length grey hair came to the door and said quite curtly it will be ten minutes. She then came back out and said to my sister ' can you walk or get out of the chair' her tone wasn't particularly friendly and certainly not helpful. If my sister could walk she wouldnt be sat in a wheelchair, I replied in an equally blunt tone No she can't! My husband said to her was that question really necessary. We finally got in and seated the afternoon tea was very nice as were the waitress and lady who served us to items before leaving. Don't advertise as wheelchair access to the tea toom is available on request if when requested you as a customer are made to feel like an inconvenience. This is aimed the grey haired lady who appeared to be some sort of manager. Otherwise a very...
Read moreThis place must have the rudest staff in Broadway. You are met by 'The black barrier'. A crowd control belt pulled across the doorway to stop people going in. After being ignored for a while I attempted to open it. Do this at your peril! It's ok if you are a local but God forbid a pesky tourist trying to breach the doorstop . I was met with a sharp '" you will have to wait !" by door security ( aka a waitress) . Finally someone pointed to a table and over we went . No menus . We waited and waited . Nothing. I finally plucked up course to ask for one to be met with ' oh we didn't see you there ' ( we were in the middle of the tea room) " you should have waited to be shown In!" I replied " I was shown in!" The waitress begrudgingly brought me the menu. Made to feel totally unwanted and as if we were causing them such inconvenience being there. Avoid...
