Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Acworth

This should really be a 1/10th of star. I have had the second worst sit down eating experience in my life at this location last night. Not that I expect perfection from a restaurant like Steak and Shake but read on. Arrive at roughly 7pm seated fairly quickly. As my family was taken to the our table in the back right corner as you come in the door I noticed the table next to us had a bus bin full of dishes and trash sitting there on the long booth. About 5 minutes after sitting we are asked for our drink order. One of our children was in the restroom so my wife ordered his shake. When he gets back the waitress rudely asks what about him. My wife patiently responds with that is why we ordered 2 kids vanilla shakes one for the youngest and one for the child that was in the restroom. She again asks what about his drink, so my wife repeats slowly. We need two small vanilla shakes one each of these two (pointing at the children) one oreo shake (pointing at our oldest) i will have a water, and then points at me and i say a Dr Pepper. Again the waitress seems confused but finally gets it. So about 5 minutes later she shows up with 3 kids size waters 1 adult water and my Dr Pepper. At this point our menus were closed and sitting in front of us. Maybe 5 more minutes later she comes back to take our orders. Again we have to explain to her TWICE what each person wants and she still gets it wrong so we explain it a THIRD time. Also my son had spilled a bit of his water and we requested napkins. Finally she gets it. The napkins mentioned earlier never arrived. So I head to the restroom to get some paper towels for my son.Well our food arrives and it is not our original waitress bringing it to us. Well this waitress has no idea who is getting what and they bring out an extra mac and cheese. Still NO MILKSHAKES. We ask the server who brought us the food about the milkshakes. She says there is only one person making milkshakes/cooking (she mumbled)So we commence to eating. We are just about done my youngest is finishing up (he eats slower then the rest of us) At this point still NO milkshakes. My wife and discuss if the milkshakes dont get here soon we are not paying for them. During this entire time which was about 40 minutes or so never ONCE were we asked can we get you anything, do you need a refill, how is the food, etc. Also the bus bin full of dishes and garbage never moved. As we are getting ready to get up to leave here come the milkshakes. Well thats fine we say to ourselves but you are too late. The server shows up with the milkshakes and we tell her you are too late we are leaving. She comes back seconds later and tells us the manager said they are on the house (something done right sort of). Well anyone with kids knows I can't send those milkshakes back a second time since the 3 yr old seen them. So they begin drinking them. Oh yeah three milkshakes and two spoons. Math is not their strong suit I see. So I get up to pay and wait and wait and wait (odd I am the only one in line to pay) Finally a manager shows up tells me the total and I question it as the milkshakes were "on the house". As I question the total he flips the receipt around with a grimace on his face pointing at the total. I politely said we were informed the milkshakes were on the house as they arrived as we were packing up to leave. He removes them. I pay and leave. Oh yeah bus bin was still at the table. (disgusting and unsanitary and unprofessional)Less then an hour later my wife and I have severe stomach issues. Leaving both of us pretty much incapacitated for the night. I know it had to be the burgers because that is the only thing my wife and I had that the kids did not.

Now I know this was long but I wanted to get the point across....

Why do I continue to come back to this place? The kids love it here that's why...the kids don't care that the service is absolutely horrible...the kids don't care that we wait 10 minutes to be seated....The kids don't care that it then takes another 10 minutes for someone to come take your order. They don't even seem to care that it takes forever for the food to come out and if you want shakes, you better order it when your food is delivered if you want it to come out at a decent time after you finish your meal....the kids don't care that the servers don't come back to check on you after the food is delivered by someone other then your server (at least someone brings it out) and lastly, the kids don't care that you wait another 10cmin at the counter for someone to come to the register and take your money . BUT I CARE!!!

EDIT/UPDATE: MY low star rating still doesn't change....this place is still horrible. But again as stated, my kids don't care. Updating this post COVID, my kids don't care that there is no longer table service. My kids really don't care that you now place your own order on a kiosk (they actually love this cause they get to play with a touchscreen like it's an iPad), get your own drinks and refills, and your own condiments and napkins!!!. My kids don't care that they call you when your food is ready and you have to get up and GET YOUR OWN FOOD. My kids don't even care that when you place the order on the kiosk, it has the nerve to ask me if I want to leave a tip!!!! FOR WHAT?....I placed my order, got my drinks, got my food when it was ready, got my own condiments and napkins, my own refills AND when I was done cleaned my own table!!! Why the hell are you asking me if I want to leave a tip!!!! The place should be tipping me for doing everything short of cooking the food. No tip for you!!!

Why do I still come to this place every once in a while? Because my kids don't care!!! They love the...

Update for this location April 24th 2023. Last week I went to this location l picked up lunch for a client that is homebound I am their caregiver and three times a week they order food out and this is one of the places that I stop. After sitting about 20 minutes in the window area waiting for my food and them charging my debit card they came back and said that I need to pay with cash well I had no cash so the lady frustratedly handed me my lunch order and said thank you it's on us. I explained I would come back later in the day and pay for the lunch and she said there was no need to don't worry about it. I did however go back and pay for the meal. Fast forward today I pull through the drive-thru I'm informed of the drive-thru is no longer working that I would have to come inside and order. I went inside to order and found that you have to order from a kiosk and there are two kiosk with cash and two kiosk for cards I of course brought cash because of the event that happened last week. The lady that was inside to help me with the kiosk as it's brand new ask me aren't you the lady that came last weekend didn't pay for the meal? She's the same lady that I dealt with last week, and I said no ma'am I'm the lady that you gave food to because your machines wouldn't take my debit card, I'm the lady that came back later and paid for my order. She was having trouble with the kios taking my order and I explained I didn't have time to wait that I had already been there too long already I had to get to work. Again she said you're the lady that didn't pay for her order last week. It just so happens that I was on the phone to my friend both times and she heard every bit of the interaction with this woman. This location has changed so much in the last...
