Unfortunately, there is not much of anything to be said that is positive here. We entered to find the cashier tending to a baby. That would be Ok except we had to listen to the whining, crying baby through our meal. We were seated and noticed right away, the restaurant was uncomfortably hot. Pedestal fans were placed throughout as if to say, we cannot operate and control our restaurant to assure the comfort of our guests, so this is what you get.
The menu was limited. I ordered Pad Thai thinking that the staple of Thailand would be a safe choice. It was edible but was dry and tasted "off". My wife ordered a soup and verified with the waitress that it would not be spicy. Of course, it was too spicy for her. The waitress took the soup to the back to "fix" it, whatever that means. When they brought it back to the table "fixed" it still had lots of the little specs of red pepper floating around. She was unable to consume the soup and they offered no further alternative. Then, insult to injury, they tried to charge us for the uneaten soup.
The service was inattentive and slow from beginning to end. We went to pay and found the cashier she was too distracted with the baby to attend to us. Then she asked how everything was. The audacity! Since she asked, I answered politely. However, she did not listen and presumably was not really interested in the answer if she could understand it.
My experience is, when you go into a restaurant and you see the situation where you feel like you are in a family living room with family members ducking in and out of curtains leading to the kitchen, turn around and leave. We didn't because we were anticipating the rebirth of Sawasdee from Langley. Although, it is in the family, Chuck (the owner of Sawasdee) has gone full time to his other restaurant, Sawasdee Authentic Thai & Noodle House in Martinez, GA and left this one, Thai Jasmine Rice, to his brother-in-law....
Read moreWe have had a terrible time finding really good Asian food in the CSRA, (recommendations are welcome). We started going to this restaurant when it was buried in the Valley v& we followed them to their current location in Aiken. Our group tends to eat a lot of Pad Thai which they are always pleased with. They also always enjoy the curries. I always get the Kao Pad Fantasy which a stir fry with lots of veggies served on rice with cashews which I order with tofu and it is always delicious. I also love that they have what I called the "spice wheel" with extra spices and hot sauce one can add, (one of them is very hot!). Some of our folks love the Thai coffee which you can order in varying degrees of sweetness. I'm not much of a desert either but they have these little fried donuts with condensed milk, something I never liked, that are delicious. I served beer and wine at the old location, but they currently are not serving it at the new location that you can BYOB. I believe that they're waiting on a liquor license. Decor is small, but cozy. Occasionally, they get a little overwhelmed, but not because they're not working hard and I surely don't mind sitting around talking with my loved ones waiting on...
Read moreWent to this restaurant today and was sad to see that the ownership had changed since my last visit. I moved out of Aiken, but come to shop and eat at my favorite restaurants from time to time. This time, it was Jasmine Thai’s turn. Like I said, was a little disappointed that it was under new management, only because I was afraid the menu was going to be different…and it is different. I was not able to get my favorite menu item, the Yum Mama. We decided to still give it a try. Pad Thai was still on the menu, at least. So we ordered 2 wonton soups, an order of spring rolls, and 2 fried rice (one was chicken, one was shrimp). I added chicken to my shrimp Pad Thai, at an expected additional cost, no problem. The soup was 🥵 scorched. The Pad Thai was mediocre and the rice was just okay. The cost of our meal for 3 people (2 adults, one small child) was $94!!! I was flabbergasted! I will not be returning, to say the least! I hate to say that my favorite hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant has lost my business. PS: I will say they did slightly improve the ambiance of the place since the previous owners. There were no other customers. The buffet was empty- we arrived a...
