BLU Jazz+ oozes opulence with its exposed brick and modern touches, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels both sophisticated yet delightfully approachable. The downstairs venue (handicap accessible) winks at the golden age of jazz clubs with its elegant design and focus on live music. It feels like a hidden gem, perfect for a special occasion or a casual night out.
I attended Apollo's Fire performance of 'Taverns of 1610' exploring the Baroque style of Tavern Music throughout the world during this time. First off, fantastic performance - if you have an opportunity to see them, go! Secondly, this venue is uniquely gifted to provide intimate performances. You truly feel like you're at a VIP private performance.
You're able to dine-in during the performances as well as enjoy an impressive wine list and mixed drinks. The menu is curated with a limited selection focused on taste and efficiency. I had the steakhouse burger with fries and it was delicious. Seasoned hand cut fries... Mmmm...is there anything better?! However, it would be an injustice to not state that the burger was the burger you dream about, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. I'm always saying, "I just want a good burger, where can I find that?"... Now I know the answer.
Blu Jazz+, thank you for delivering on that and surprising me with an experience I never knew I was missing out on.
Just to put your mind at ease, this is a genuine review from an Akronite who digs a bit of vocabulary flair. No sponsorship, no prompting, just a desire to share my awesome experience. As an independent reviewer, I strive for clear descriptions that paint a picture, while keeping things fair and accurate. I also enjoy providing artistic, yet visually accurate photographs for your consideration (with accurate credit). Mission...
Read moreMy husband and I had a night together away from our children. From all the places in Akron, we have choose to enjoy our time at BLU Jazz. The stairs down to the club were kind of trashy, but inside of the club was clean and quite trendy. There was a nice band playing from New York. We were having a romantic time together. First, some kind of woman who was sitting behind us, threw a napkin at my husband and told him to get quiet. We were just sitting whispering to each other quietly and having a good time together. Then, the manager came up and ask us to leave, because, apparently, we were disturbing the show! We were sitting in a front row and were well aware of our presence and surroundings. We have done nothing inappropriate other then being affectionate to each other in a settle manner. At the door, we asked the manager what was wrong in our behavior, but nothing from what he said made sense, was objective or true. Usually, if you unaware of disturbing the peace, they should give a warning or something, or ask you to tone done, but do not kick you out without even talking! We are very well respected people in our circles, and try to go only to upscale places. Here, we paid $70 for 2 ticket to watch a nice but an average performance, and, eventually, for being kicked out for doing what the people suppose to do when they are together and love each other. We never figured out what we did so wrong. Please be aware, this is not a place for some people who are looking for a higher end venue to spend a romantic touchy-feely time together. You will be removed...
Read moreLove Blu Jazz, great spot for good music and atmosphere. Saturday night was a different story. We came for a birthday celebration and arrived early, placed our dinner orders early (before most patrons had even arrived). Our waitress was good and attentive, our drinks came as ordered. But after waiting almost an hour and 1/2 only some of our appetizers arrived along with an apology that they were out of stuffed peppers. After waiting another hour, and watching other patrons getting served, we approached the manager and asked what was going on. He explained he was aware, we would be compensated for our wait, and the food would be fresh and hot. Some was, some wasn't, some was not edible; plus at that time there was still another appetizer missing that we were told they were out of that late in the game. We appreciated the manager, Collin's, effort to make our night right, and hopefully it was one-time experience. My family frequents Blu Jazz and hopefully this experience won't stop them. Maybe a larger food staff and more food supplies in stock might be an answer. I hope our next visit...
