High St. Hop House is my go-to spot for cocktails and beer. The bartenders, Emily and the rest of the crew, are the best in town. They're always up for a challenge, and they can make a drink out of anything. I usually stick to my traditional Jack and Coke, but with all the whiskey and bourbon selections on their wall, it's hard not to get creative.
The bar is more geared towards the college nightlife, so it can get pretty noisy on weekend nights. But I'm getting older, and that's not really my scene anymore. So I've started going earlier in the evening, when it's less crowded.
They also have a great beer list with seasonal beers to choose from. And even though they don't have food, you can order from Totally Baked Pizza next door and eat it at the bar. The pizza is delicious, and it's the perfect way to soak up the alcohol.

I feel incredibly disrespected and will not be returned and will no longer be recommending friends and family here. I planned on coming back for 21st or Baxters open mics and won't be. I sang last night and am just so...
Read moreI've been here a few times, and the cocktails and beer are good but the service can be a bit rude. We ordered a cocktail that had pimms (a liqueur) and found out they were out. No big deal, the drink looked like it would taste fine without. We were told we couldn't order it because it was an "exact cocktail." Ooookay. We weren't asking for substitutions or discounts and this place isn't THAT nice. 3 stars because drinks are good and sometimes service is just fine, but...
