A Must-Try Treat in Skagway
We were intrigued by Klondike Doughboy from the moment we arrived in Skagway. This little storefront always had a crowd—people waiting outside, others happily munching on what looked like deep-fried heaven dusted in sugar and cinnamon. After walking by several times, we finally gave in. And we’re glad we did.
The Alaskan fry bread was everything it promised to be—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and generously coated in that classic cinnamon-sugar mix. Simple? Yes. But absolutely satisfying. It felt like a cross between comfort food and something you’d find at a state fair, in the best possible way.
What made the experience even more fun was standing out front, enjoying the warm doughboy while watching the ever-hopeful ravens waiting for a dropped bite. There’s just something about this place—the food, the energy, the setting—that makes it feel special.

$6 gets you this thin, fried bread, churro tasting fun that is something I've never come across in all my current travels. The friendly staff makes it fresh for right after you order so it comes to you hot and tasty af. When it cools down and you start chomping on that sweet tasty bread, you don't stop until you're done or you can't eat anymore. What is great is how it's not too sweet and the fried dough texture makes it easy to share like a piece of bread. Just share, tear and eat!
The large size also makes it fun to snap/post for your social media fans. Skagway visitors, if you are a fan of churros and/or sugared donuts then a stop at Klondike Doughboy is a must! Do it for...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about this store. The fry bread itself is decent- it tastes like what it is: a thin flat donut coated in cinnamon and sugar. It's also pretty physically large. For the price and the taste, I would give a slightly better than average rating. Knocking off an extra star for the rude and judgey/hostile store workers. They act like they don't want you to order/purchase from them? Strange... I understand it must not be easy speaking with tourists all day, but it was very stark after the kind cashiers in other stores. They also hand you the boiling hot freshly fried dough with nothing to protect your hands. Grab a paper towel first to save yourself from my...
