I hadn't been by this small, family-owned downtown eatery since well before the pandemic. In the before time, my office had been right down the street, near Central and Fourth Street and my boss paid for lunch. Though that's no longer likely to happen, I saw that the joint was still open and called up Monday afternoon to order lunch. Downtown Albuquerque seems sorta forlorn, and there are hardly any worker types walking around, like in the old days. But restaurant was bright and lively when I got there to pick up the meals for my wife and me. The teevee was playing English football, the customers were eating and talking and the place seemed warm and inviting on sunny but cold day. When I got home we ate. The grub was great! I had a handheld breakfast burrito, huge yet reasonably priced and my wife totally dug the Aunt Patty's Melt. Everything we ordered was freshly made with love and a definite command of local and regional flavors—Green chile with Cali style 1000 island dressing, sautéed onion and high quality beef on grilled rye?! Who knew! Local Downtown businesses like this will depend on local, neighborhood consumers to make it this year....
Read moreThis was a lovely experience! Quiet, not too crowded, even at noon on a weekday in the heart of downtown. The staff was nice, the decor was simple, elegant, but not stuffy or uncomfortable.
The chips were homemade and delicious! The salsa is the best I've had in ages. They sell it by the pint too! We had between us tamales, rellenos and the huevos rancheros. Everything was delicious, the red chilie was just right for the 9 year old. Not too spicy and all the Chile was tasty too! I recommend the calabacitas! Well seasoned and grilled to the perfect consistency.
We had two toddlers with us. They made a just jelly sandwich for them with raspberry jelly. They were also very kind about the little one wanting to be up wandering around.
A great experience! I will definitely be back to try...
Read moreWe were staying at The Clyde for a conference and some of our people found this little place, and boy we were thankful they did! The word spread fast through quite a few groups from our conference because they did not disappoint! For lunch yesterday, our group had Zak's Famous Club, Monte Cristo, Tosatadas Compuestas, and Pasolé which were all amazing. This morning we had Carne Adovada and Eggs, Good Morning Relleno, and another round of Pasolé for one because she loved it that much! They also have a $5 handheld breakfast burrito that you can grab on the go! The chips and salsa were also yummy! And to top it off, the staff were very nice! I can honestly say, we as a group, highly recommend stopping in. Thank you Baca...
