This post is more a humane tragedy, somewhat long but worth the read. My wife wanted her usual pick me up so we pulled in, as drive thru was long she decided to go inside for faster service.
Now the scene is set.
I decided I had better run to the restroom before our drive to Santa Fe. I walk in and head straight to the restroom. Was not greeted or spoken to. 👎My neighborhood Starbucks may have me spoiled. Strike one. I realize that the bathrooms are on a code entry locking system. I immediately thought okay they want to avoid non customers the opportunity to wash up. I approach my wife, who is now paying for her order, and ask the barista for the bathroom code. The barista ignores me like I am a ghost. So I politely in the next breath tell my wife I need to use the bathroom and asked her (directly in front of said barista) if she can ask the batista for the bathroom code. Strike two.
The environment is very bright yet there are no comfortable furniture in which to lounge in this particular establishment. It is intentionally the most unwelcoming Starbucks that I have ever seen. Eh mabe it is built for speed.
Here is Strike three!
This is a taught behavior! Your employees don't greet customers. A service travesty. This purposely leads to an unwelcome environment. There was a conscience decision made to incorporate or add door code locks to bathroom doors. Even if you have a transient population issue with homeless using your bathroom then wow at worst you are providing a public service and corporate can write off the paper supply budget. Absolutely freaking inhumane! Your store manager knows better but your general and district manager are asleep at the wheel. They manage multiple Starbucks and can't walk in and see the estetic and vibe are completely different from other stores? No valid excuse.
Starbucks, you have failed these employees by teaching them they need to give a customer a code just to take a leak. You have failed the community by intentionally making 🚻 unavailable to the general public. You have failed the universal balance by making your location an uncomfortable visit for any patron dining in.
Not every location is a winner but hey maybe you general and district managers are working from home. Sure seems like...
