I have found a new favorite restaurant! I had never tried Ethiopian food before and was admittedly a bit nervous going into this new experience, not knowing what to order or what to expect. After looking at the menu and talking with our server (who if I am not mistaken is also the owner and cook of this restaurant) we decided to order individual plates but have it served on one large platter so that everyone could try a little bit of everything. That was DEFINITELY the way to go. Everything was absolutely fantastic. The food was perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned, flavorful, and more. Our server/owner/cook told us that since the Washington Post article was published, she had to fly her mom out to Virginia from Ethiopia recently to help her with cooking at the restaurant to keep up with the demand. We also decided on a whim to order a bottle of Honey Wine since we had also never tried that before, and it was a PERFECT pairing with the spices and flavor of the food. We all sipped the wine before eating the food and it was good, but it tasted 100x better after we had eaten some of the food. I can’t believe it took me this long to try Ethiopian food and I can’t wait to go back to Feru Bar to enjoy it again. Depending on the day and time that you go, it might be more or less busy, but regardless, if you have to wait a little bit for your food I promise you it is well worth it. You can tell that the owner is doing her best to serve everyone as quickly as she can while still trying to maintain quality service and food! She is so sweet, so please be patient with her! Feru Bar deserves all the...
Read moreAlright, my fellow culinary adventurers, let's talk about Feru Bar. Nestled in Alexandria, Virginia, this Ethiopian gem has truly captured my discerning palate, and I'm here to tell you why.
Here's a breakdown of my delightful experience:
Awaze Tibs:
Oh, the Awaze Tibs! Tender cubes of beef, bathed in a rich, spicy awaze sauce, were simply divine. The heat from the awaze was perfectly balanced, a warm embrace that left me wanting more. The beef was cooked to perfection, each piece melting in my mouth. This is a must try for any meat lover.
Vegetable Plate:
The vegetable plate was a revelation. A colorful array of beets, greens, and other perfectly cooked vegetables. The beets, earthy and sweet, were a standout. The greens, tender and flavorful, complemented the other vegetables beautifully. Each vegetable had it's own distinct flavor, and all of them came together to form a very well rounded dish. The quality of the vegetables was clearly very high.
Tomato Salad:
The tomato salad was so fresh, and well seasoned. It was a very nice cool and refreshing compliment to the other dishes.
What truly elevates Feru Bar is the attention to detail. The injera, that spongy, slightly tangy bread, was perfect for scooping up every last morsel of the flavorful dishes. The service was warm and welcoming, adding to the overall delightful experience.
In conclusion, Feru Bar is a culinary treasure. Whether you're a seasoned Ethiopian food enthusiast or a curious newcomer, you're in...
