Where do I begin?
We normally stop in at this location if we make a trip to the Grand Rapids area and are hungry. Normally, we don't have any problems here, but our experience last week was absolutely atrocious and we brought two out of town guests with us too, who have never been to an Olga's before. Well, they most likely won't be coming back either after this experience.
For starters, when the waitstaff brought out the two cups of soup, one of them had a long dark hair sitting on the top of its surface and it wasn't the customer's hair either because she has blonde hair. This was just the tip of the iceberg though. The steak olga that I was eating had aluminum foil in it, which I just pulled out and kept eating the olga. After waiting an extra 30 minutes or so after our first few meals came out, a couple more of the meals came out and the turkey in the turkey olga was cooked so long that it was difficult to bite into and eat. My children's chicken tender meals were cooked so long that the meat was completely dried out in the middle, almost to the point of it being completely cooked out of it. The curly fries were all overcooked too. We asked the staff to re-cook the chicken tenders and she said to the chef that we didn't prefer how they were cooked so to re-cook them. This wasn't exactly a preference thing...it was a they were not edible the way that they were cooked thing. My oldest son has autism so he thought that he had to eat it. When I saw how he was struggling and saw that my other son hadn't touched his, we finally said something. It took another 30 minutes to get not 4 chicken tenders remade, but 2. We asked the front counter attendant why we didn't get the full 4 tenders remade like we had asked and she said that she only saw 2 tenders on the plate, which there were clearly 3 left, but that isn't the point. The whole meal was crap. She went on to say that we could be reimbursed for the second tender meal, but she can only remake what wasn't eaten, which was the 3 tenders so it was another 15ish minutes to get the last chicken tender made. You would think that making the second set of tenders would cost the business less than reimbursing a customer for the meal, but hey, what do I know. The front staff member also told us that they were supposed to be getting their oil changed in the fryers the following day. I'm sorry to say, but that wasn't an oil problem...that was a someone forgot that they were in the fryer and still served them to paying customers problem. Even when looking at them, you could tell that they were cooked too long. This whole process kept us there for about two hours. The snackers were overcooked as well. We ended up taking them home with us in a box and when my husband went to take a bite of them later on, he actually broke a tooth on it. After this experience, we probably won't be back, unless management trains their employees a bit better or the staff does a better job at looking at their food before serving it to their customers for quality control purposes. Honestly, we should have been reimbursed the full $80ish that we spent there that day, which was last Thursday, July 3rd at around 5PM, if I...
Read moreInternet booked my family's dinner for a pick up at 7:15, but didn't receive my food until 7:30pm. I arrived at 7:12 announcing my name for pick up. The waitress did mention there were some working on it. Fine, I was a couple mins early. I went back to sit in my car with my kids and seen a couple people pick up orders. I went back in 7:22pm and the waitress came to explain more about why the food isn't ready yet, but because she wore a mask she was so muffled I couldn't hear her reason properly. I didn't want to be rude to ask her to repeat herself five times either. Whatever the case, I waited, and brought my hungry son inside to help me carry the bag of food out. Only then did I feel like they had a sense of making food because there's a child. I had three children hungry from after school games! If I wanted my food at 7:30, I would've selected 7:30! I selected 7:15pm. The business wasn't busy either, but full staff. Only two or three tables dining in. When I finally received my food, I then finally asked her what the problem was that I received my food 17 mins later than my selected time. I couldn't even hear the waitresses reason and I knew they all could care less on a Wednesday evening, but all I wanted to do was support a business who didn't want it! My children's fries were cold!! My kids couldn't eat the fries, they were overly salty, so were the zucchini fries. The pita snack are my favorite and the best, but were horrifically cold and hard as rock, how sad! They pretended like I was getting hot food while I was waiting, but everything was cold when I checked the food at home ten mins later. A pizza can still be hot and warm when you pick it up yourself! I never got an apology for the wait from wait staff or main kitchen lady because she stared pretty hard. I don't recommend them. Didn't like the vibe from staff. In the trash my food goes. What a waste! Also looks like others experienced the same vibes as I....
Read moreI honestly thought it was Olga's kitchen at first but I'm not even angry. It's a Greek restaurant. An "Olga" is basically a gyro or pita. Their falafel looks like giant pellets or pills and didn't upset my stomach from being overly oily like many places tend to do.
Everyone in my family of 4 found something to eat and my daughter loved the cream of broccoli soup so much she asked for seconds... A year ago I couldn't get her to eat any soup, a month or two ago I couldn't get her to touch broccoli, so quite the compliment as far as she's concerned.
Overall it's still a restaurant, it's still borderline fast food, but it feels a little bit healthier than most options on Alpine.
There was an odd situation when I went where there were only two girls working the entire restaurant. They had a warning on the door and they did an amazing job all things considered, but one was full-time in the kitchen while the other took orders at the register, delivered the meals to people's tables, and kept everything picked up. I did wait longer for some stuff because of that but overall the place was clean and the flow of customers were moving at an...
