The fries and burgers we ate at CHOM were excellent and worth the price. However, I recommend take-out over the dine in experience. The restaurant facilities were surprisingly dirty. Both the chairs and tables we used had that film of tacky grease typically found at infrequently wiped down fast food joints. We are grateful that they offered high chairs, however, each of the four tucked into the corner hadn't been wiped down since the last occupants and were littered with debris and crumbs. The wall we were sitting next to had dried fry sauce and a pile of food and other debris on the floor. It looks like this is typically where the trashcan sits, however, it clearly never gets cleaned and food on the wall isn't just occurring on the walls near trashcans. The soda and ketchup station polymer countertop appears to have been painted to match décor and is wearing off, adding to the neglected feel of the dining area. The bathrooms however were in good order and included child changing stations. The staff were courteous and prompt in cooking the food. I've dined at each of the restaurants that have occupied this corner space since the building's construction in the 2000s. I hope that CHOM lasts longer than the others as their food is practical, affordable, and edible, but they need to clean up their act literally. A routine cleaning plan for daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning needs to be reviewed and adhered to. Floor sweeping and surface wipe downs need to take place on a nightly basis with an additional scrub down of surfaces on a weekly basis to mitigate the accumulation of grease on customer handled surfaces. The portable square tables with recessed groves on the surface need to be replaced with solid surfaced tables due to the current accumulation of food and grease in the crevices which require scrubbing with a brush to remove. Based on the amount of food hiding behind trashcans and adjacent to exterior doors, there had better be a substantial rodent mitigation system. Lastly, consider adding stainless steel flashing to the soda station, or remove the paint which will never holdup to typical customer use. The natural color of the polymer countertop is not a detractor from the overall look of the dining area and provides a more cleanable surface. The black pain also aids in highlighting debris and soil accumulation. These unofficial observations are based on a history of facility auditing in accordance with...
Read moreI've been following Chom for years since they opened up their Provo location and I've always considered them a 4-4.5 star place, until now. My order was almost always the bacon bleu cheeseburger, which was always pretty good though never the best I've had. That said, I've always enjoyed it and never once had a bad experience.
I recently went back with an old friend after not having been for a couple years. I don't know if they've actually changed anything, but their buns seem way better now and their serrano cheeseburger was absolutely delicious - so much so that my friend and I went back a week later. I enjoy it so much I can't even bring myself to try my old go-to, the bacon bleu cheeseburger. The serrano burger alone is worth 5 stars to me.
So, either absence made my heart grow fonder, they've stepped up their game since expanding, or I had just been ordering the wrong thing all those years. Regardless, I definitely recommend giving them a try. They have a good range of burger options, so I'm certain they'll have something you'll enjoy. They are a little pricey, but think of it as an occasional treat (unless you get addicted to the serrano burger).
Also, I have always thoroughly enjoyed their fries - even their sweet potato fries which are usually...
Read moreONE AND DONE Just finished visiting CHOM for the first time with my fam. It was a very busy Saturday night around 6:50 pm when we arrived. People were already complaining to the front staff about having no forks, spoons, and no ketchup. I found a table but there was no one wiping tables down so I had to do it (which is fine considering how busy they were). We waited for our food for 20 min. My husband ordered the pastrami burger, CHOM fries, sweet potato fries, and 3 shakes: biscotti, grasshopper, and Oreo. The burger was cold when he got it. He said it felt like it came straight out of the fridge. Bun was dry, flaky and cold, the patty was dry. He ate it anyway because he was starving. The CHOM fries were the highlight of his meal, but I thought they were way too salty. My sweet potato fries were perfect, and my biscotti shake was the best tasting out of the other ones. Grasshopper and Oreo shakes were watered down (but they had good amount of mint + chocolate chips and Oreo bits in them). Total cost of our meal was $36. Was it worth it? NO. Our total cost for dinner last night at Habit Burger was the exact same price , but it fed 2 adults and 3 kids with leftovers!! And their food was hot. We wouldn’t recommend this...
