Alright. I've had a few different dishes here now and at this point, it has become more than time to give these guys the honest review that they deserve! The first time I made this Tapa location my choice for a meal, I ordered take out. I got the shrimp and scallops noodle entree. It was carefully boxed and still presentable when I arrived home with it. It was hands down DELICIOUS! 🤤 The seafood meat as excellent and the sauce was superb. Portion was normal. A tad bit on the smaller end but it was worth the price. The second time I decided to chose these guys for a meal, I again got take out, I went with a discounted lunch special. It was a pork loin donburi. It came with katsu fried pork on top of a bed of white rice and steamed vegetables. Let me first say that for the price I paid which was very affordable at like 13 bucks, The portion was HUGE. I could not finish it in one sitting. No way, no chance. It was very tasty. 😋 It served as two meals because I thought the portion was so large, and I'm an average sized person. The third time I decided to choose this place for a meal, I went in person with my roommate. We ordered sushi and ramen. Although I cannot speak highly of the ramen, because I've had better, I'm not going to sit here and trash talk this place in any way shape or form, I'm sure the ramen would be acceptably good to some people but I have a certain spot that I prefer for ramen specifically, the sushi was very fresh. It had a salty type of taste to it like an oceany taste. It was very good. Not a lot of options on the sushi menu which was kind of a bummer but the quality and flavor for some will make up for it. And the fourth time I decided to try this place, I'm actually currently eating my take out right now. I got the what is called on the menu donburi beef. It is lip smacking and finger licking good. It came with perfectly cooked, I'd say medium to medium well steak. Yes steak not just some random beef. It was sirloin. A generous portion of meat, on a bed of white rice and tempera battered deep fried vegetables. Carrots, yams, & zucchini. Absolutely delicious. I would recommend ordering an extra side of teriyaki sauce. Look, If you're thinking about trying this place then don't sleep on it, and look no further, as I was thoroughly impressed. In this terrible economy, when food is so expensive everywhere you go, if you're going to pay $15 to $20 for a single plate... then this is exactly the place you want to go to for ensurance of getting good portions and quality flavor and super yummy...
Read moreWe just had a 5-person birthday lunch extravaganza here this afternoon (lunch ends at 4 PM), and everything was fantastic —
We had three appetizers: the crispy calamari (which is also sticky and delicious), the gyoza (Japanese style, crunchy, and not too chewy or thick-skinned), And an off-menu house specialty that I won’t mention here, so it’s more likely to be available next time we come.
We ordered a bunch of their lunch specials, about half of them were the sushi lunches, with two hot dishes: The tonkatsu (the breaded pork cutlet over rice) was served in a large bowl, with a large and delicious portion — the coddled egg and extra barbecue sauce were excellent (see the photo); and The Japanese yellow curry vegetables with rice, which was very good (and smoky; the curry could have been a little looser and saucier, i reckon) Overall, the sushi was very good (see the photo).
Perhaps because we ordered six lunch specials for five people and a few appetizers, we had some extra hot food to take home — about one full lunch’s worth.
We definitely plan on coming back, especially given the reasonable prices....
Read moreWe go here all the time and it’s normally great and always order two green tea shot cocktails. This time the drink was half full, super sweet, and a tiny little orange slice in it. This is a shame because this was my fav drink anywhere when it’s made properly. The server tried to tell us they’re only half full when there’s no ice but they haven’t had ice in a long time. They also weren’t half full. Then two servers come to the table and the blond one wanted to dispute that it tasted different. I can only tell them what I said here. Cheap Sushi Garden nearby is a good alternative if you can’t even get a good drink here. I didn’t even want more alcohol it’s peach and too sweet.
Responding to their reply: The blond lady said she made the drink not the new server. She said this it now has ice and without the ice it's half full even without extra alcohol, and it didn't taste any different than normal, like she'd tasted my specific drink or something lol. This is not worth the expensive bill. I'll stick with Sushi Garden right...
