My wife and I were here with my parents for dinner, and we chose the counter-service over the table service - my mother spent a few minutes actively trying to get a human to take our orders but we had given up and started ordering off of the touchscreen system before anyone was out to potentially assist us. My wife and I ordered, but by the time my mother started using the machine it somehow came unmoored from its setting and fell - we managed to keep it from taking a trip straight to the floor, and I got an employee over to assist with the rest of the order. I had one of the Alice in Wonderland themed lattes, the one with local honey, lavender, and bitters; it was incredibly good, I don't remember the name of the drink, but it was the one at the top of the "signature drinks" menu. For food I got a small Detroit Style pizza, adding shredded Parmesan and Ricotta to the Mozzarella - this was also very good. Elizabeth (my wife) got esquites (Mexican sweet corn with mayonnaise and spices) and two street tacos (she only intended to order one, she also had some issue with the touchscreen order system) and also enjoyed her meal. My father got an avocado toast with salmon (thumbs up) and my mom an order of Mexican Rice (overly dry) and a street taco (she wasn't a fan).
I think it would have been better if we'd just had a human to take our order - I like the concept of the touchscreen order system a lot but it was truly poorly implemented here, with confusing menus and organizing. Also, the situation when the whole screen nearly did a floor dive should NEVER have been even close to a possibility - these screens are expensive, it needs to be mounted absolutely securely.
The atmosphere was excellent and the layout of the building was beautiful. If this had been around when I'd been growing up in AV, especially high school, I and my friends would have absolutely hung out here, particularly for the coffeehouse fare. Back in the early aughts there was only two coffeehouse options - Caribou and a very basic indie place called Vertigo.
I cannot express the level to which the ordering experience turned my mother off of the place as a whole, though.
TL;DR - Food is good, coffee is great, make sure you order directly from a human until they redesign their touchscreen...
Read moreThey're running a great promotion for the summer, 2 for 1 all day, every day on everything have on tap. Don't sleep on this place! We've known about this restaurant for a while now, but never tried it until today. What didn't realize was this was several restaurant concepts in one! We went with the Minnesota Burger Company menu, though you can pick and choose off of any of the menus. We started with drinks, Downeast Original Cider, which was excellent, and the Unicorn Blood Red Ale, which was also pretty good. We tried the cheese curds, which were excellent and perfectly deep-fried. It came with a jam for dipping, which was pretty basic, but still good. My wife went with the slider meal and had the beef brisket slider and the shredded turkey slider. She said they were both tasty and could have used a bit more sauce, but overall, she said she would get it again. I went with the classic smash burger, which wasn't as smashed as I thought it would be, but it was still delicious. We were there on a Saturday night, around 6:30, and had no issues with wait time or service. They had a couple of board games you could play near the bathroom, but seemed like most of the pieces were missing. I think this is a great idea and I hope they add some games in the future. We definitely would have stayed for another round. We're looking forward to going here again and exploring some of their...
Read moreThis spot has gone through a lot of name, menu, and concept changes over the years, but Revolve Hall is hands down the best version yet—it finally feels like it fits the ever-evolving vibe of the location.
We visited on a Saturday night and sat on their summer patio, which is fabulous. The new Vietnamese shrimp crepes were phenomenal and definitely the standout dish of the night. We also ordered the pork belly, which was good but a bit underwhelming—the pickled veggies were almost nonexistent. For a rich, meat-heavy dish, I think it would really shine with more veggies and herbs on the side (and pickled veggies are such an easy, inexpensive addition).
The cocktail menu is so much fun—I had two different matcha drinks, and both were amazing.
Service has been hit or miss for us in the past, but this visit was solid. I really hope Revolve Hall thrives—it feels like having a South Minneapolis restaurant right in Apple Valley. While the prices might seem high for the area, they’re fair considering the unique food and great atmosphere.
I’m already looking forward to going back to try the ice cream tacos—they sound like...
