As a recent import from Texas, I have to say that I'm a little mystified by the long - and I do mean long - lines of cars at the local In-N-Out here in Arcadia. Man, they gotta be on the order of a 45 minute wait at least. Is any junk food burger worth that? Granted, n-N-Out is cheaper than other burger joints, but the wait alone cancels out any savings (you're in effect working for far less than minimum wage).
No, I have to conclude that people are coming for the product, which is pretty okay. It is NOT Whataburger, which doesn't exist in California, but my final assessment is this: it is medium grade product excellently and speedily prepared by friendly, cheerful staff. While that's not worth a long wait to me, it's very clear that IN-N-Out Burger knows their niche and has a good thing going.
I got the Double Double all the way with fries and a Coke, because it's By God America and that's the law. The burger was American Cheesy good and hot. The fries (like McDonald's of recent years) have a definite crunch half-life and as such are good for about 5 minutes max, after which they become cardboard. During those five minutes, though, they're serviceable. Get salt for them. The coke was properly mixed and had the soft-crunch ice - bueno.
I went on a night a bit late when the line was only about 5 minutes. Do that and you'll be okay.
I see online that my calorie sin tally was about 1,000. That's a lot, but surprisingly less than, say, a Chipotle burrito with...
Read moreMy first night in California and one of my very first stops was at this very busy burger joint. I drove past about 30 eateries to get there because. . . . well . . . . just about everyone who knew I was coming to CA said "You HAVE to go to In-N-Out Burger!". . . . usually accompanied by frantic hand gestures and wild eyes.
Service was great, a friendly girl came to my car with a tablet and chatted me up when I told her it was my gasp first time. I ordered an "animal style" cheeseburger on her recommendation, fries and a strawberry shake.
As I inched forward, gripping my steering wheel, trembling with excitement I realized my lifelong idea of a great burger was about to be irrevocably changed . . . . Right?
Wrong. Shake was ok, not the best ever. Not even top 5. Fries were pretty bad actually,. kind of limp and cold and lacking in salt and . . . wait for it . . . burger was actually pretty good, but not the mind blowing experience I was led to believe.
Will I be back? Sure. While I was pushing my dead fries around, I actually read the bag and the sleeve they came in. Seems like these guys are locked in with sensational service confirmed using fresh ingredients and a commitment to the local community. I like that stuff. And did I mention they were pretty cheap?
Round two tomorrow perhaps? Or do I save my pennies and splurge on a burger from that place that rhymes with Knive Wives when I get home...
Read moreAlways an incredible experience here, NO Matter which location we visit. Customer service is consistent and excellent. You'll know because you'll always be waiting. Affordable, delicious, fresh and hot food EVERY time. The long lines go fast because they know how to run a smooth operation. This is why I feel we have the same experience every time no matter where. We were in Vegas and we were treated just the same.
The protein-style burgers keep me coming back for more! Been having In-N-Out for years and now I can't have bread and tomatoes? I can still have In-N-Out!!!! ❤️ ❤️ They made it perfectly - a 4 by 4, plain, grilled onions, no tomato, protein-style, allergy to tomato. A 3 by 1, plain, protein-style with grilled onions, no tomato, allergy to tomato. Two Flying Dutchmen, one fry, and an animal-style fry, too...We eat like royalty here on a dime! ❤️ They made everything perfectly! We've never had a problem with this location ever! We're allergic to everything and they support our restrictions!! What I like, too. This location, as with all of them have long lines but it goes fast because they run them efficiently!!...
