I cannot rave enough. I love this place so much I really want to gatekeep it, but that doesn't help this fine establishment. And truly, they are not in need of positive press because it definitely has a dedicated following, but I was charmed to heck and back from the hometown vibes, the great western art featuring "The Duke", and the great food.
The hometown vibes goes beyond its perfect packaging and decor. The waitress had her stuff together being able to answer all questions, taking an order in the bustling Sunday crowd accurately, and being so friendly. Hands down, it's rare to find a waitress who has confidence in what she is serving, is happy, and actually have a personality. The clientele is there for a good meal and they are warm and friendly like it's the 1970s again (they can talk with one another despite not necessarily knowing the folks at the next table and have real words to say). The staff is there to give genuine hello greetings and warm thanks for visiting upon your leave.
The decor around my table was John Wayne. It was a real decent collection of portraits, movie shots, and advertisements. Not your standard regular generic stuff that immediately pops up when searching for it off the top of Google. Someone took the time to really collect John Wayne stuff, so there were nice things to look at and generate talk about. Kudos to not being gimic-y.
Finally, the food. I really don't think you can go wrong on what I saw all over our table. Amongst six of us, I could see a good variety. My country fried steak was phenomenal. The gravy was not too spiced, not too thick, not too runny. It really was perfect. The pancakes I tasted were golden, fluffy, and held the taste of butter and syrup. My eggs were poached medium, just like I asked. Usually at other places, that is never case. I was so happy. I could hear the echo of my father's Alabama drawl as he describes the level of happiness thus: "Happier that a pig in sunshine..." That was accurate as I dwelled on the whole feeling of good food in good quantity with good company.
To summarize, this culinary experience was just perfect. I got to fill up with my family all eating good and no problems on the horizon. Zeke's makes sure you have no worries, your objectives get accomplished, and the time spent is like a time traveling mini...
Read moreThe wait was rather long, but it was a Sunday morning, so we expected it. They were all very nice. It was my hubbys bday and our first time at Zekes. I told them this when we checked in to put our names on the list. The only reason we gave the food 4 stars was bcuz the pancakes were kinda dry and my biscuits and gravy were lukewarm. The server was very kind and welcoming when we told her it was our first time there. She was also very kind about reheating the biscuits and gravy and told me to let her know if they needed heating up again. We had never seen the menu before so we weren't familiar with it and didn't know what we wanted yet, but we were very hungry and had waited about 25 minutes for a table when we were told it would only be 10 to 15 minutes. That being said, she asked if we were ready to order and when we told her we needed just a minute, it was quite awhile before she came back to get our order. Dont get me wrong, she was wonderful and like I said it was a Sunday morning, so I guess maybe we should of expected it, but people that were seated way after we were, were getting their food, and that was frustrating bcuz they arrived to put their name on the list a good 20 minutes after our names were put on it and a good 10 minutes after we were seated before them. All in all, the portion sizes were great and the food was very good and the atmosphere was nice too. We will come back again on a weekday to see if maybe the wait outside and the wait to order...
Read moreVery good food with many options to choose from, very friendly staff. Kinda hard to find if it’s your first visit and parking is most often pretty full. That tells you how many people love this place. I do miss the Prescott Valley but will continue making the trip to the original location in Prescott. Prices aren’t to bad for the amount of food that’ll be on your plate so go hungry.
UPDATE: sadly I’ve had to lower my review of Zeke’s. Not do to food or atmosphere but this new to me situation, they refuse to place a to go or pickup for anything if you happen to catch them with a waiting list. It’s unfortunate that I’ve driven over 20 miles exclusively for this great place only to find this out. Whomever answered my call while in the parking lot wasn’t the friendliest either. She certainly wasn’t in the mood to talk in any way shape or form. I’m guessing that your supposed to call to see how busy they are when your near only to show up to find them now busy and this new, or new to me practice. I wasn’t able to place the order ahead of time which I’m aware of but now no longer when they’ve a waiting list.
Very very disappointing! Off to...
