Being an Arlington resident for 30 years, I'm ashamed to say that this was my first visit to the well-known J.Gilligan's. We were searching for a good hamburger spot on a post-winter storm, currently- still-in-a-pandemic Saturday and our choices were slim. When we drove by and saw the "open" sign, we decided that this was the day to finally try it. We entered the building and wove our way through the rambling rooms, and a few other diners, to finally lite at an empty table in a cold back room. Our server greeted us immediately and came over to get our drink orders. She also presented us with a limited menu on a laminated piece of paper. The menu contained just five menu items, including one burger choice. The description said it was 1/3 pound patty, so my companion and I decided to split it and order the Irish nachos with it. The food arrived quickly and we were presented with two paper plates. One had a decent looking cheeseburger. And the other had round slices of potatoes covered with melted cheese, a few onions, some bacon bits, and a side of sour cream. Upon further examination we both commented on the thin burger patty...nowhere near the 1/3 lb. we'd been expecting! And, although the burger tasted fine, we both said that we could have eaten a whole one. The Irish nachos, while relatively tasty, were just elevated bar food. What doesn't taste better covered in cheese? The same potato slices were present with our burger as well. This naked version of the nachos were cold and bland. Maybe a hot, seasoned version would have been OK, but we left this batch on the plate. My first J.Gilligans visit was pretty disappointing, but it could have been due to the weather and other circumstances. I also suspect this place is so popular because of the UT following and the close proximity of a decent, and inexpensive, watering hole/hangout for students. I may return on a post-covid day to give them a second chance, but it won't be...
Read moreStopped by last Saturday night for my birthday with some friends. I ordered a drink and some food for myself and one of my friends got some food as well. Everything was fine until I got my tab and I was charged for both mine and my friends food. We both told the girl bartending that I wasn't paying for anyone but myself. She said "Well okay, you should have told me that when you ordered it".. well okay, but I'm saying it now. Anyway - I ask her if she can remove it and she tells me I've already been charged for it but she will fix it and when it clears my bank the total will have been adjusted. So I sign my tab and leave. Next couple days, the charge clears my bank and its exactly the same. I made a phone call up there and spoke with a woman who said she would pass my message along to the manager or owner when they came in and I'd get a phone call back. Well it's been almost a week since this happened and about 2 days since I made that phone call and I haven't heard anything. Would have been real nice to have not been lied to and my money stolen but 🤷♀️ Also- watch your step on those stairs inside to the patio. They decided to build the steps to where the last one is like 2 or 3 inches off the floor, I twisted my ankle on it that night as well.
Only giving more than 1 star because the...
Read moreOMG we LOVED this place! We only stayed in Dallas for two nights but we managed to squeeze in two visits to J Gilligan's! The Irish Nachos are amazing! The rum and cokes were a little weak, but the fun crowd and atmosphere made up for that. The second aspect of J Gilligan's I'd like to review is their shuttle to and from AT&T Stadium. After reading horror stories of insanely jacked up parking prices at the stadium and even worse surge prices after the game for those who chose Uber, I searched and searched for an alternative and found J Gilligan's round trip shuttle! Shuttles start running 3 hours before the game until 1 hour after it ends. There is free parking there as well! Honestly we were skeptical about finding a parking spot at the restaurant, and we expected long waits and general chaos. We were so wrong! J Gilligan's has it dialed in! They were so efficient, and they even direct you to a parking place. There are several bars and restaurants that offer a shuttle service but not only was this very efficient and a great place for food before or after the game, it's the cheapest shuttle we found! We had a group of eleven so this was definitely a factor for us. All 11 were thrilled with...
