there are not many Chinese buffets in Asheboro so we have been here quite often. in the past the food quality has ranged from ok to awful but today was as they say the straw that broke the camels back.this is the kind of place you go hoping for the best but really not expecting it,where chicken in its many forms is the main item on the buffet, a place where quantity and not quality is provided. i kind of stay with the same items when i go shrimp (usually over cooked and seemingly left out a long time (unless your lucky and they have granted you the good fortune to bring out fresh) I mean you know its been there a while when you peel your shrimp and it just falls apart like mush anyway today i went in and got some mushrooms with something (a meat that was not determinable in origin or species) as i bit into a mushroom i noticed that it was hard to get threw with my fork and after placing it in my mouth it was found to be almost totally uncooked as where many more when checked with my fork. ok i thought i will forget the mushrooms i had gotten steak and green peppers once again i found it cold and under cooked i pushed my plate to the side and thought i will go back to the buffet and try again getting some shrimp, sitting down at my table fork in hand i placed a shrimp in my mouth and felt something gritty i removed said shrimp and examined it. I nearly vomited at what i saw the digestive tracked had not been removed. yuck i thought i examined other shrimp on my plate, one after another just the same, very upset i got up knowing the sicknesses that you can get from shrimp not DE veined i went to the manager and told him about my displeasure in the food (mushrooms beef and shrimp) and told him i would pay for my wife's food but would not pay for mine. he reluctantly agreed. when i went to pay the bill i was told in a very hostile way that next time i should sample the mushrooms before i sat down for the buffet. i said what are you talking about you should not have to check the items you intended to eat before you sit down you should be able to expect your food to be cooked and your shrimp cleaned i also said "i have a better idea I will just never come here again then i know i am not eating unsafe food) i then left (stay...
Read moreOK, buffets can be a mixed bag, everyone knows that. Every once in a while, though, you come across something so horrifying that it just can't be ignored.
So this happened to our family tonight:
We walked into No. 1 China Buffet at around 7pm. The servers outnumbered the customers, but it was fairly late on a Thursday night.
Right away we noticed that the food had been sitting there for quite a while. As we ate, everyone acknowledged that it wasn't the best food we'd had - the chicken was chewy, soup and sauces all had a heavy film on them, and things were just not that great in general. Oh well, that's the chance you take at a buffet.
Toward the end of the meal, I've got three stuffed mushrooms on my plate. I love those little things, sauteed in butter and typically pretty tasty. I eat one. Then I pick up the next one, and as I lift it from the plate something falls off.
That something was a well-sauteed fly.
I'll wait while you gag.
Thing is, there were NO flies in the dining area at all, and seriously this guy was SAUTEED. I'm trying VERY hard not to think about what the kitchen must be like.
A serious battle ensued to keep what I'd eaten in my stomach and not all over the table and floor. We brought the matter to the attention of our waitress who in turn told the manager. The manager apologized, rang us up, and gave us a $5 gift card. Yes, we paid for the meal (I blame shock at the horrifying even that had just occurred, and my deep desire to flee before I gave what little I'd eaten right back, with interest). Even worse? The tray was still on the buffet as our family left.
Obviously, we're never going back. Ever. Not even if the zombie apocalypse happens tomorrow and No. 1 China Buffet is the only source of food in the entire continent of...
