America's Roadhouse — Restaurant in Asheboro

When we are tourists we don't like to eat at chain restaurants because we want to experience the local places. I looked up reviews on google and we settled on America's Roadhouse based on the solid reviews. We went on a Thursday evening and we were seated right away near the hostess station. I could tell right away that they get a lot of repeat local business because they seemed to know everyone who came through the door by name. That's always a good sign for a restaurant.

The staff was super friendly to everyone. Our server was great. She was polite, got our orders correct, and on the spot with refills. She made sure the food was to our liking and everything was ok. She had the perfect balance of checking on us, but not hovering or disappearing for long periods of time. I was super pleased with the service.

The food was good but not great which is why I knocked off a star. All of us enjoyed the food but there was nothing amazing about it that would make me absolutely have to eat here again. I'd say the biggest thing they have going for them are the portions. None of us could finish all of our food. I ordered the 3 item seafood combo and was astounded when it showed up at the table. That plate alone had enough food for my entire family of 4. I forgot to take a picture beforehand but the picture I'm posting is at the end of the meal. I went in here with a healthy appetite, we didn't order appetizers, and my family picked off this plate too and this is how much was left. I'd say at least half of the original portion. They are definitely not stingy.

All in all it was a positive experience, but the staff were what really made the difference, without them it would have been an average experience...

This is one of those places where they really need a different rating system. They deserve about a 4.5 or 4.6. The atmosphere really enjoyable, it's old style Americana and they really have some neat decorations around. (See pictures!) It certainly makes the dining experience more enjoyable. I was in a particular mood tonight - and I came in for their big 18 ounce steak. Since I got a senior citizen discount for being there before 4:00. I was happy. I was celebrating God helping me with the senior pastoral review that went very well - with the eastern district of my Wesleyan Church. So I was having a steak to celebrate. It was a very nice cut. And I wanted medium rare but it was still mooing and chewing grass, so I sent it back. And they did a good job and we're all too happy to accommodate my request. But somehow the steak just seem to be missing a little bit of grilled flavor or something. But overall it was a very nice steak as I would expect it to be for $30. I've eaten here before. It's always nice but I don't ever find it to be spectacular. The service is nice & prompt. And it is a very pleasant dining experience. Yet, It's a little pricey. So we don't go there all the time but definitely have been here and we'll come back. By surprise, I met a friend from another city so I know that some people come in from out of town for this place, because it has an excellent reputation. So for a nice evening I definitely would come here. I have had the fish in like it very much also. I'm just looking for something to really turn my head before I give it a five....

Let me tell you the food here the night we came just truly was disappointing! We came in from Raleigh NC to visit the family and I ordered a steak 🥩 with fish and gator bites the steak came on this big ole platter plate and I was like wow I asked for medium for my steak rare that is it ended up been well done, it was so fatty and had a lot of grissle on it that I literally left it on the plate torn into pieces. Now one might say why didn't you complain and send it back well I'll tell you why I have had experience in the kitchen in the former longhorn for many many years and I have seen things that the customers can not and when sending back a steak mot people in the kitchen can get really aggressive about it so I wanted to avoid all of that plus they where slammed pack so I dealt with it. The oyster stew could use a bit of butter and salt I did enjoy my jumbo shrimp however you only get 5 pieces of that the waitress Julie i think was her name was as nice as could be but never very attentive more less all over the place. My wife ordered a emu burger she said it was good she like emu and they serve it here so that was great the gator bites was the best on my plate I want be back for a while as like I said we are not from Asheboro but I hope they improve on the steaks lol.
