Even once you dismiss the owner/employee written love letters (reviews) there is still an amount of affection for this place that I just dont get. I mean, first off; the prices are high. Especially when you consider the ambiance, which reminded me of a break room at a department store. The wife ordered a chicken salad panini ($9), comes with a bag of chips and a pickle. It was barely toasted, the cheese wasnt melted and it was on the smallish side. She enjoyed it for what it was but agreed that at that price it should come with a real side. As for my burger; the burger that people rave about, its your typical pre-formed patty from Hickory Nut Gap. I can think of 20 other places in AVL that use the same thing. The guy didnt ask how I wanted it cooked, so I requested it medium rare, he said OK. But, when I looked at my ticket, (the same ticket that the cook sees) it said nothing about that. Once I got it (after like 5 minutes, which I thought odd) and took a bite I found it to be cooked to well. If Im paying $10 for a burger I want it cooked the way I asked for it. Im guessing that they either cook all their burgers to well, or, par-cook them in the A.M., and then finish them when ordered, because that saves time. The ranch was sweet and sour, and gross. The wheat bun was fine, as was the lettuce, but lets face it, the star of the show is the meat, and it was nothing special. Give me a hand pressed, made to order burger from U-Joint or Farm Burger any day of the week. Again, at $10, give me a real side. A bag of chips?! Really? Whatever it is people see in this place, I just aint seein it. The good news is that there are plenty of other places downtown where you can get a decent sandwich or burger with the same quality ingredients, and for less money. Or at least, get your moneys worth. Grade: C (the christian propaganda in the bathroom is bad...
Read moreEDIT: I literally love y’all. How amazing, thank you!!!
I’ve been ordering delivery from Roman’s to my work for well over a decade. Probably at least once a week. The food is wonderful and SO consistent. I’m happy to have so many vegetarian options from a sandwich shop and they are all so good! I never want them to close.
I hate to leave anything less than a glowing review about a local business that I love, but I am really not happy that they updated their delivery minimum to $20 (I think it used to be $14?) I am not one to complain about the prices at my beloved local businesses because I want them to survive. My problem is that I have trouble meeting this $20 minimum.
It is extremely hard to make an order for $20 for my lunch. I’d be happy to compensate with tip, but it has to be $20 worth of food. Me and Roman’s might be breaking up, and I’m...
Read moreI gave it a five because the Hamburger is the best in western North Carolina. I don't know what the meat is marinated in but it is amazing and I've been treating myself here for over a decade. This is not a place to find fried food but you can get some healthy sides. I just go for the burger. Call ahead and make sure they are open since their primary business is for the downtown work crowd. Now, I almost gave them a three star for location, panhandling while sitting outside, and the occasional transient you will have to step over to get to this great place to eat. BUT, that is not their fault but the fault of the city of Asheville which needs to be cleaned up. Update: On my last visit Haywood Street was a little more cleaned up, but I would not venture...
