I'd been wanting to hit Wicked Weed for a few months, but it's not exactly close enough for a quick dinner. So when we were staying in Asheville recently I wanted to make sure we got to try out their restaurant. I'm glad we did.
We walked into the large patio area around 1800 on a respectably cool Saturday, and were told that the wait would be 35-45 minutes. We grabbed our little beeper deal and wandered around for a bit. Walked to the co-op across the street and picked up some provisions and I ran them back to my car while the family returned to the WW to wait for our table.
When I returned I attempted to walk back in to rejoin my family but the bouncer informed me that they were at capacity before I could even get into the patio. He was informing everyone that re-entry wasn't guarantied, and pointing out a very obscured sign that I had seen, but didn't read. It genuinely doesn't look cautionary and it's obscured by a gate and some plants, IIRC. I may be completely off base. The bouncer let me in after I explained what was going on (when I walked back before returning to our car, there was no capacity problem), and I totally understand fire code. So this didn't give me a bad taste or anything. I think people need to know that this place can be popular enough that they have to force people to be safe.
After sitting down we waited around for what started to feel like we'd need to just leave before a waitress finally came by. Again, this place was at capacity, so I knew they'd be running behind, and I was happy to cut them some slack. The waitress didn't leave us hanging after she started serving our table. We soon found that they do not offer flights on weekends. Noted. We had some great beers (love the Pernicious). We ordered a straight up burger, falafel wrap, pretzel, and the kababs. Everything was top notch.
We'll definitely return to WW in the future, however I hope we have...
Read moreStopped in for a drink and dinner. Service at the bar was great. Everyone seemed super friendly. We had the hummus plate and it was probably the best one I've had. The veggies were great and the hummus was fantastic. I can't drink at the moment so I asked for non alcoholic options. They didn't have a ton to choose from. I was kind of surprised as many places in Asheville do, but it is a brewery so I didn't knock them for it. Sat at a table for dinner. Got the burger and the strawberry salad. I was not impressed at all with the burger. It could have had a bit more life. It looked like something I could get at any chain restaurant and was lacking depth. I was expecting more from here after the beautiful presentation of the hummus plate, but maybe I shouldn't have had high expectations for a brewery. The salad was ok. I think if the dressing were a tiny bit more tart it would have been fantastic. The service wasn't great at the table. We had to go get our own drinks as they sat at the bar forever. I asked for a tea, had to ask twice to actually get it. Then she asked if I wanted a refill. That never came. The facility is great. Beautiful all around. There are oddly very few bathrooms and being in a wheelchair on this visit, they were a bit hard to navigate. Two stalls in the one upstairs. I asked if there was another. Apparently there is one downstairs but it is only one stall. For such a large restaurant I'm surprised they only have three toilets. I gave them four stars because the bar experience was so great. I probably will not eat a full meal here again but I'd definitely stop by again for a pint and...
Read moreCan we talk about worst customer experience? Yes? Then Wicked Weed is the place if you want to experience such. My friends and I were visiting Asheville for the first time during Veterans weekend. We walk in, the host or employee greets and we mentioned there is 3 of us and we just want to have beer (it’s a brewery). She mentions we can either use the table in the middle pointing out or go downstairs. We opted for the table she pointed. After we sat down, a female waiter or employee comes in and asks if we have talk to the host and we said yes. We tell here, we are only having beer; she leaves without taking our order. Then another female waiter, host or employee (bear in mind no one at this point identifies themselves or greets) comes in to asks the same questions. At this point, I’m a little irritated with all the rudeness since I have been repeating the same story to some employees that seem to think I walk in and sat down without following protocol. She then explains, that if we are only doing beers we have to go downstairs, and asks to describe who was the person that told us to seat there. I felt that at this point, she could have worked for the gestapo. As a customer I have the ultimate word and can and should walk away from a place or situation that is not aligned with the customer journey that I deserved. I live in Miami and I have never experience such horrible customer service in a local brewery. Imagine that! Do yourself a favor walk a couple of blocks and walk in to Asheville Brewing Co, you will definitely notice the difference in...
