My husband and I went to Catch Steak in Aspen last night, and we had a blast! I’d been wanting to check it out forever, and finally managed to snag a late night reservation most likely due to weather cancellations. Yes, it’s definitely an expensive experience there’s no denying that but so is everywhere in Aspen and it really was a most enjoyable evening. Our server, Noah, was incredible! Such a nice, friendly, and genuine person who truly made our evening quite memorable. When we go back, we certainly plan to request Noah him as our server!
For our appetizer, we ended up keeping it simple with the pretzel bread as we didn’t want to fill up too much given our entree choices. It turned out to be way more delicious than expected and the whipped honey-mustard butter is awesome! I wish I could’ve bottled that up and taken some home with me - so good.
Our entrees were ultimately the stars of the night though - My husband ended up getting the 8 oz. Imperial Cut Wagyu Filet Mignon and he loved it. We shared a side of Mac & Cheese, which was also delicious and the perfect size for 2 of us. For my entree, I ended up getting the Wagyu Flight Experience! While the portion size may seem small, I definitely felt full from it and barely had room for the Mac & Cheese. Each of the 5 wagyu pieces was unique in its flavor and texture, but all were simply amazing and the “melt in your mouth” consistency was present among all 5. I loved this Wagyu Flight so much! I unfortunately chose to go to the bathroom right before this came out, so I didn’t get to see it cooked in front of me on the hot stone. My husband took photos of it though, and it was so neat to see!
Despite it being my fault that I missed seeing the hot stone in-person, our server Noah felt really bad about this timing and brought us the 13-layer chocolate cake for dessert on the house. He absolutely didn’t have to do that at all, but it’s just one of the many ways that Noah went above and beyond for us during our dining experience at Catch! By the way, the 13-layer chocolate cake is huge so plan accordingly as you’ll absolutely want to try it! Both my husband and I are so excited to go back to Catch Steak Aspen on our next trip out here! Highly recommend, and I’d give more than 5 stars...
Read moreFine food, ridiculous prices. Aspen is not a cheap place to grab dinner, but even so the prices are way above those of other restaurants of similar quality here. The service was disappointing. It took too long for our waiter to first come, even thought the restaurant had yet to fill up. Service was generally slow throughout the night, including from the drink bar. The worst was yet to come. We ordered the croquettes to start, as well as the sizzling shrimp. How I wish everything else about the restaurant was as good as the croquettes. They were the best thing we had. I do feel like they were worth the $28 even if the price was high. The sizzling shrimp came out overcooked, and only got tougher as they remained in the hot cast iron. For the main course, I ordered the cowgirl ribeye medium rare. Even though it came perfectly cooked, this steak is why I decided I won't be coming back. When I asked the waiter what made it a cowgirl ribeye, he said that all they did was trim a little bit of the fat off the edges. All I got when it came out was the eye section of the ribeye. For $70. When I expressed my displeasure, asking where the rib cap was, the waiter told me that, no, that's called a tomahawk ribeye. Never have I seen a restaurant sell just the eye and call it a rib eye on the menu. As a matter of fact, I had the same mixup last night at the Monarch, but the Monarch actually clearly listed it as "Eye of Rib Eye," so I accepted that it was my mistake. The real kick in the teeth is that Catch Steak sells the rib cap on the menu for another $60 or $70. What a scam! I calmed down and told myself I'd just have some dessert to make up for it, so we asked for the dessert menu. I looked at the prices, realized the desserts were $24, and we just tossed the menu back the table and asked for the check. The atmosphere is nothing special. It looks fine. It has a couple different things going on which look nice on their own, but none of which fit together. Namely, the large plant wall with a row of potted plants in front, the pale red bricks, and the tables. All fine on their own, but no cohesion. Also, it's very loud in there. It's not worth coming here. There are are simply better places to eat at the same or lower...
Read moreMy family and I ate at catchsteak tonight and I wouldn’t be able to call myself a real critic of restaurants if I didn’t write this review. Tonight I heard “this is the absolute worst steak I have had in years…”. There was so much wrong with my experience tonight. 1. We were seated on the patio without notice when we made or confirmed the reservation (Key information when dining out in Colorado at night). 2. The pretzel bread and butter was sold out at about 7:15pm, we opted for the most average focaccia ever and the butter never came and it was $16…. 3. We asked our server Keillor what the chef recommended temperature wise for steaks as this sometimes can be interpreted differently. We were absolutely steered astray and out of FIVE steaks only ONE was close to what was ordered. The rest were beyond overcooked it was unlike anything I had ever seen at a “steakhouse” (where a lot of the steaks are from a Colorado town that has one of the largest feed lots in the entire world). 4. We were only asked if we wanted another round of drinks one time the entire meal, again this is a Saturday night dinner for six people in aspen. 5. When we were asked how everything was we were honest and said it was not good, the server asked if he could try and fix it but when dining with a group like that large the cadence of the meal is paramount and there was zero chance we would get 4 steaks turned around in a timely manner when there was hot sides on the table. When someone tells you how unbelievably bad their experience is you expect some sort of courtesy compensation. As seasoned diners you expect the house to take responsibility and compensate some of the bill so the server isn’t subjected to a bad tip. It’s in poor taste to punish a service industry worker for the kitchen’s shortcomings regardless of the service. A tip is no longer a tip it’s part of the wage… “I’ve had better steak at an Outback Steakhouse” was said by a member of our party and she was not being facetious. This...
