Excellent service, very good food, just right ambiance.
Service - Counter Service (5/5)
The service was quick and friendly. Do keep in mind it is a counter serve BBQ joint, which I think is fitting for the place, so you are part of the service ;) Our food came out very quickly, and our tray was taken before we left, so no complaints there!
Food and drinks (3.5/5)
Do not misunderstand - the food was quite good. The ribs were fall off the bone, the brisket was juicy, the sausage was plump, and the pulled pork was just right. Also the mac and cheese was savory and the greens had the right amount of heat.
There were really only 3 areas that could use improvement.
1 - The portions were slightly small for the price. When I go to a BBQ place and spend $30 on a 4 meat plate I expect to be miserable when I leave from eating too much. I also expect 4 sides when I get such a plate. Only 2 sides came with it and I left comfortable - not miserable. I know it sounds crazy, but I have had BBQ in many places and the portion was simply not up to par here. To be clear, it was still delicious!
2 - Any good BBQ place has a signature bread (normally a cornbread or roll or the like) included with your meal. Here you get what appears to be a thin slice of Wonder Bread. I know this seems very picky, but the bread is something that everyone who goes, gets, so it should be enjoyable and memorable as it will be a shared memory.
3 - The BBQ Sauce was good, but not exceptional. There was also no spicy option for the sauce. Every great BBQ place should have a stand out sauce that the patron looks forward to using again. Again, the sauce was good, just not exceptional as it should be.
They have a solid beer list and wine options. Also fair prices on alcohol. No recommendations here.
Ambiance (5/5)
There are private seating options and cafeteria style options. It was very fitting for this restaurant. Beautifully crafted tables, a few TVs, and a great view of the BBQ smokers. The unfinished pine wall paneling gave a very contemporary inviting feel to the place. I also loved the steel pipe paper towel holders. Simple, fitting, and neat. The layout was also efficient and did not feel too crowded or too empty, just right :)
Please note that when I wrote this review, the restaurant had only been open for a few weeks and given that it was an excellent experience. My critique is not intended to keep people from trying this great in town BBQ joint - on the contrary I hope more people come. It really is worth coming to! My critique is more for management to make a few minor tweaks to ensure that new people keep coming in, and people who try it come back for more.
Come in and try it, you will...
Read moreTLDR: Another reviewer below said it best: "Not bad, but not good". Overall, too pricey for what it is. Most items lack flavor or anything unique.
Cons: Price, Mediocre Flavor, Semi-rude girl Behind Register, Soggy/Mushy Pulled Pork (no bark or flavor to be found), Flavorless Brunswick stew,
Both sauces were weak (their carolina was a D, their red was a C), sausage somehow managed to lack any real spice/flavor, and I really looked forward to that.
Pros: Good bark on the brisket, and it was tasty, good smoke flavor. Though the cut I got was dry(ish), and the portion smaller than other places, I still think this is the highlight of their menu The pinto beans were pretty good, Good selection of local beers
Neutral: Ribs (they had good tasty bark, but small, and nothing amazing), Decor, White bread (I get it, and I lived in Texas, but damn it if I don't enjoy some decent bread, and this aint Franklin BBQ)
I'm a huge BBQ fan, and have to try every single new joint in town. My friends know this, and so one hit me up last week and said I needed to give Das a go. So I hit up some friends who live nearly on top of it to join me, and should have been tipped off when he didn't sound enthused. Nevertheless, I have to try for myself.
If it wasn't so pricey for what it is, I think I could have tolerated some of the misses better, but my 1-person 3 meat plate set me back almost $30 after tax and tip, with no drink, beer, desert, etc. It wasn't even big enough that I felt the price was made up in portion size, and I certainly can't say it was the quality of the food. The only things that I got that were truly worth my money were the brisket and pinto beans. As stated above, the ribs could have been on this list, due to good flavor, if portions were bigger. I got 3 pretty small ribs, which doesn't cut it at these prices.
Everything else was as mediocre as it gets, or in the case of the pulled pork, sausage and Brunswick stew, weak.
If you're looking for something flavorful, and are more demanding of your BBQ, head to Bone Lick (which used to have a location in West Midtown but is now just in Edgewood)
For a more unique twist with much better sides hit Heirloom (Up 75 a bit), or Crooked Tree in Marietta (more BBQ fusion, good change of pace, and their white sauce is killer)
If you're just looking generic BBQ go to Jim n Nicks. The brisket is better at Das, but everything else is better or equal at Jim n Nicks, the sausages actually have flavor, and they have better prices and delicious cheddar biscuits. (Again, I get Das is a Texas joint, but we're in GA, and cheddar biscuitswhite...
Read moreBelieve the one star two star reviews because the way she tried to hype up on the phone right now that they have the best barbecue in Atlanta to a black woman. I’m like really girl stop stop it don’t do that again. Now I’m over here looking at all these 12reviews and I know you’re not lying . There’s a certain cultural technique you need to have within your soul before you start cooking food so you won’t have to overprice the food to make up for what you’re lacking. Sorry not sorry. I’ve noticed a certain kind of people who think cooking something simple as ribs is hard work so they overprice their food. lol I’m staying with BIG DADDY’s off of Campbellton. Please don’t lie to yourself again lady and tell people you have the best BBQ in Atlanta. I’ll stick with the ribs that were not so hard to make. What is different from the ribs other restaurants are buying except for the cooks? Before you tell another black person that is the best barbecue in Atlanta, please make sure your sides are in order because these reviews on here are given humble yourself please. I would have never posted this review if she would have not tried to sell me so blandly saying this is the best barbecue in Atlanta to a black woman. You just don’t tell Black people that you have to let them eat the food first and try it them self and you had to put “DAS” barbecue really are you guys serious? Ooohhh way to be for the culture trying to attract us, but then you refuse to season for us according to the reviews with tastebuds. I’m...
