Very bright and clean space, but be aware. This is not the most flavorful place in the land of southern cooking. The collard greens I'm sure are cooked in apple juice with no salt or pepper or any seasoning whatsoever. Also, they weren't cooked down enough to eat without a strong chew. BE AWARE VEGANS and VEGGIES: The Yucca fries are indeed not vegan or veggie. They are cooked in chicken grease. 🤢 It is a chicken spot, so I'll give them a pass, but please put that on the menu. I ordered 10.00 worth fries and could not eat them . Now, here's what I have to say about the customer service. While the young men taking your order are clean and can compute well, Jim (the name he gave) is a young Caucasian male, heavy build with a defined mustache. I observed his behavior toward customers. I'm recovering from mouth surgery and he treated me as if I was unintelligent. I observed how he eagerly and happily greeted other Caucasians as long as they weren't with someone who wasn't Caucasian. Maybe he needs a history lesson about the area he chose to work in. It's being heavily gentrefied and there is a hodge podge of different types of people that he may see in a given day. That area he chose to work in is where Hank Aaron had a dealership. Just down the road you'll find Spelman and Morehouse. South of where he works is still very much like it was before it was eyed for gentrification. That area just 10 years ago was an area where Caucasians wouldn't be found ever, unless they were looking for their drug of choice. Please wake up in 2024. Division will not mull over to well in a city that is over 60% African American. Good...
Read moreI am a local resident who frequents businesses along Georgia Avenue. I’m not one to discount the hard work and struggle involved in running a business – especially one in the hospitality sector. That is why I always respect those I encounter in the service industry, mostly regardless of their disposition. Unfortunately, the staff member I ordered from was unwilling and unable to provide me with a cup of water. After a second ask and the blank stare I received, I got the message, which was, “move it along, sir.” I was then told I could buy one instead.
Interestingly enough, potable water is a necessity when it comes to running a kitchen. The blank stare and subsequent denial of this amenity left me puzzled. No matter. I decided to give their sandwich a try. I was rather disappointed in that as well.
I wasn’t planning on reviewing this joint until my father called me and mentioned that his client got sick from the food they serve. It’s a shame that this establishment is so close to my home. I would have loved to frequent it. Instead, I now opt for Chick-Fil-A, whose staff are friendly and accessible. The chicken sandwich is consistent and enjoyable, unlike How Crispy’s. Hope these guys figure it out eventually! Until then, I suggest avoiding...
Read moreHow Crispy Express is clean and very well managed. The staff is attentive and friendly, and really willing to engage with their customers. They make you feel welcome and taken care of. It’s also clear they know how to make great chicken. Their prep work is fantastic and the final product was really well done. Crispy (as promised) without being greasy on the outside, and moist and and perfectly cooked. And also really like their use of thigh meat. It’s more succulent with much better flavor.
What I didn’t care for was their sauces and toppings. Their sandwiches would befit from a little extra pizazz from extras like slaw, cucumbers, onions, blue cheese, shredded lettuce, etc. And their sauces really need more flavor. They just have too much mayo too add anything to the sandwich experience. Their falafel-based Crunchy Boi is a prime example—too dry and no flavor—and desperately in need of some extras. The herbal seasoning of their chicken, on the other hand, helps those sandwich’s rise up, but in my opinion they need more distinctive flavors and toppings to stand out.
How Crispy has a lot to be proud of as a restaurant. The foundation is there. If they can improve their sauces and toppings, this place would be a sure...
