I went there in a down time and no one was really in there. The music was good, it was a Electric blues; rhythm and blues; rock and roll; soul; type of vibe. The guy I was talking to was the owner I think but he was a very quiet guy, but was seem to care about the customers. He gave me directions, answered my questions, and even gave me some suggestions when I was a bit confused. The worker at that register seems to be new but she was sweet. I had the meet plate with 2 sides. My protein was brisket and my sides were Mac and cheese and spicy beet coleslaw (I think that's what they call it) he was surprised I ordered it and i was too lol but I wanted to try something new. And it did not disappoint. I wish it was a bit more solid in consistency, but I enjoyed it. NOW IF YOU DONT LIKE COLESLAW AND YOU DONT LIKE BEETS, ITS NOT FOR YOU. It's for ME. The Mac and cheese WAS ACTUALLY GOOD. It paired well with the brisket and the sauce. It ain't your granny Mac and cheese it's ya uncles Mac and cheese. It's creamy like it was made with a roux, maybe not but the noodles are cellentain(They were spirally) and it was seasoned but not granny or auntie season. It was subtle like it would pair well with anything and any sauce. I enjoyed how it brought the brisket and the sauce together( it was bussn) The brisket was perfect. It was lightly seasoned, like enough that if you put BBQ sauce on it it'll add to the flavor but seasoned enough that you can eat alone. It was flavorful and it pulled apart so easily. It wasnt dry and I tried to cut it with with my knife and it my knee wasn't needed. If fell of the fork. The only BBQ I like was the mustard sauce. I liked it so much I took it like three condiment containers home with me. The vinegar based sauce wasn't for me and the reg BBQ wasn't hitting like the mustard sauce. BUT this my opinion. I got fried pickles and it was good. Crispy and not soggy. Seasoned well. And the sauce was actually good. Idk what sauce it was but it wasn't ranch like alot of people try to serve with them . I got a drink I think it was called the spicy Matador. It's a tequila based drink. And added that Tajin around the rim. I think he put some jalapeño in it. It mightve been called the jalapeño matador. Either way. It hit the spot. I took a sip and I was living la Vida loca (lol). Overall I enjoyed the food and the customer service. I'll be back with some friends to...
Read moreI visited Wood Chapels BBQ twice, the first time was to place a to go order and the second time I dined in. This joint is located in the Summerhill neighborhood, this was my first time visiting this area since the Braves played at Turner Stadium and it is very different. There are several restaurants, a bakery, brewery located in close proximity to Wood Chapels on Georgia Ave.
To Go experience: I ordered through their website and it was very easy and convenient. I went to the window to pick up my order and was told it would be a few minutes so I ordered a small frose…delicious and perfect for the warm day. I sat on one of the benches under an umbrella and sipped my frose and one of the employees walked my to go order over to me. Great service!
--My mom had a brisket sandwich and said it was very good. She also liked the side of mac n cheese and potato salad that we shared. I had the salmon, it’s only served on Saturday and Sunday and it a nice smoky flavor…very good! The potato salad was my favorite side, it was very unique and prepared with dill. Yummy!
Dine in experience: I dined in on a late Sunday afternoon and it was a very hot day so I sat inside with the AC, it was just a handful of people inside and outside on the patio. You walk up to the bar are to place your order, I recommend checking the menu online so you know what you want. The server was very friendly greeted us immediately and also thanked us as we exited after eating.
--My niece had the brisket and said it was okay, she added a lot of BBQ sauce to it. She wasn’t a fan of the mac n cheese or potato salad and I have to agree. It was not good! The mac n cheese tasted like store bought and the potato salad was too creamy, very different from my last experience. My salmon was good but tasted very different from my last experience.
Overall I would rate this a 3 for food based on both experiences and a 5 for service. I won’t rush back here for their weekend salmon meal but I will give them...
Read morecame across Woodchapel Barbecue while in the area looking for a pastry shop, and figured I’d give it a try since I had a craving for brisket. The place looked solid, had great reviews, and I had never seen it before—so I thought, “Hey, maybe it’s new and worth putting people on.” I even had intentions of filming a quick vlog to highlight the spot.
But from the moment I got my plate, those plans shifted.
I ordered the “Pick Two” with brisket and Oaxaca jalapeño sausage. The brisket was sliced so thin it actually caught me off guard—as someone from the South, I’ve never seen brisket cut that way. I asked the server if I could get a thicker piece, and she quickly shut that down, saying that since it was a two-meat combo, what I got was it. No offer to help or even a sense of wanting to accommodate.
Still, I figured the food would speak for itself. But when I sat down, I realized the brisket was cold—room temperature at best. I tried to flag someone down, but kept getting ignored until what looked like a manager noticed and kindly offered to bring me a fresh piece. I actually really appreciated that and went to sit down again, expecting it wouldn’t take long.
15 minutes passed. The restaurant wasn’t busy, so I didn’t understand the delay. Meanwhile, my other food was going cold. I asked another busser if he could check on it, and cool but seemed confused. Finally, the original server made eye contact for the first time and when I explained I still hadn’t received the replacement, he said, “We got a little backed up, I’m sure it’s coming.”
Eventually, a small slice of brisket showed up. But by then, everything else was cold and my mood was off. I packed my food up and left.
I genuinely wanted to help spread the word about this place. It seemed like a hidden gem at first glance. But after the cold food, the dismissive service, and the lack of follow-through, it felt like maybe I should just keep...
