I originally went to Nobu in NYC and fell in love. To this day one of the best meals I’ve ever had. When my husband and I were in Atlanta we decided to splurge on a date night at Nobu. This ended up being the worst decision and has honestly turned me off of Nobu completely.
We were seated quickly and had a great table in the back. We had three different servers come talk to us. It wasn’t until the third that she actually introduced herself as our waitress, yet the other two kept waiting on us two. This made it incredibly confusing - as we were never sure who was actually taking care of our table.
Disclaimer: I have some weird dietary restrictions due to an auto-immune condition, however, it is rarely a problem and was not an issue in NYC. I informed our first waiter (who wasn’t our waiter) that I had these restrictions and explained them but asked if doing the Omakase would be feasible he said unlikely. Told me to just do A la carte and then gave no further guidance. Realistically, I wanted to try a bunch of different things - which is why the omakase seemed perfect.
Our actual waitress came and confirmed my food restrictions. She spoke with the chefs and said it would be feasible to do the omakase Atlanta, so I did. My husband chose to do some a la carte - we ordered at the same time. His food came out within 15 minutes. It took 45 minutes before my first course came out. So he just ate while I waited. Once it finally came out the first course was delicious. The second and third however started to make me sick. I knew that these had some of my restrictions in it but they had stated to me that it was not heavy on any of them. That was incredibly false. Instead every single dish was heavy with these ingredients. After the third one I was practically in tears because of how sick I was feeling.
Getting our waitress to come over was a challenge. We finally did. She apologized - we asked to just stop. I couldn’t eat them anymore and needed to go back to the hotel. She had mentioned that she already put all of the dishes in for the course tasting and can’t pull them. She asked if we wanted them to go. We told her no and to just get us the bill.
After waiting so long, food that I couldn’t eat, my husband eating an hour before I got my food. We still walked away with a $300+ bill. Mind you - that is completely on us. I still agreed to try. I felt incredibly mislead and frustrated but I did order it.
However, for a NOBU, I would expect significantly better service across the board. When I told them I wanted to try lots of different things, I would expect menu suggestions and maybe some top picks. Instead I was shut down and told to figure it out. When asked what the meals in the omakase were, I was told high level dishes which seemed delicious and instead were not the same and made me incredibly sick.
I was so sick and nauseous at the end I just wanted to leave. It was a terrible experience. I will never be returning to a Nobu after this experience. It went from my favorite restaurant to my least favorite so quickly. I would not recommend this location - definitely does not match the standard you are paying for (and trust me. We...
Read moreI have been to Nobu in NYC, Miami, Malibu, Dallas, and now Atlanta. My experience in Atlanta, was terrible. To help you make a decision let me explain how the evening went.
I get a call from Nobu prior to my visit, they said, "Happy Birthday, your dinner is at 6:45, but the table is reserved again at 8:45, do you think you will be finished by that time? --- My reply, I'm bringing my wife and 2 kids, we should be done by then unless it goes slow.. But my experience at the aforementioned locations has always been a 10.. I don't foresee this being a problem.
Valet (not exactly their fault) took 15 minutes, as we arrived on time. Now the clock says 7p
The waitress came to our table in less than 10 minutes and took our drink order. When she returned, I said let's get some cod in lettuce wraps while we look over the menu. This was my wife's first trip and she wanted some time to review. It took about 20 minutes to get the wraps.. I'm now concerned for time.. I politely ask the waitress, "hey, we're on borrowed time, your people called me saying things, what can we do to ensure every thing we order isn't a 20+ minute wait time.. Especially since I have kids." Her reply, "order everything now and I'll pace it for you.". Seemed reasonable, but I said "we may want to order more"...She said "I'll continue to check in." This proved to be a terrible idea. She didn't check in at all...
We received all of our plates over the next hour except the Wagyu that we were going to cook, but she never checked in. She briefly stopped in and asked my wife if she wanted another glass of wine, which she said yes, and then sped off.
This entire time, I'm fuming. Instead of spending my birthday full of happiness, I was like where the hell is she now, what in the world is going on? I'm asking others if they can take our order... She finally comes over at 8:15, and says would you like anything else? I said NO, absolutely not, look this entire time I have been trying to find where you are. We would have ordered more.. Our entire order was 3 appetizers (Caviar + Toro, Edamame, Yellowfin Jalapeno) and 4 ounces of Wagyu on a stone we cook with.. Where is the meat and the stone? We still haven't received that? She ran to the kitchen and it magically appeared.. Like it was waiting for her... She then returns with it and says is there anything else? I said we have no time! I've explained this.
She returns the table and says since it's your birthday, would you like to look at the desert menu?? No, just bring me my bill I told her.. It was ridiculous...
MY long rant to tell you this.. If this is your place to go because of they hype, don't start in Atlanta. $500 (including an $80 tip), to be frustrated the whole meal knowing that you have a limited amount of time and poor service. I didn't have the heart to reduce the tip. My wife's reply, "I don't see what you see. We love Sushi, have eaten it all over the world, WAY better than what we ate tonight, never have we spent $500 to feel like we should stop and get something on the way home, never have I ever seen you so frustrated at a...
Read moreI unfortunately chose to spend my birthday celebration at this establishment. I booked a stay the hotel and reserved dinner for myself and 3 friends to the Nobu restaurant. During our stay, we encountered a number of unsatisfactory service and unprofessionalism.
To begin with, when I arrived at the hotel, the valet service (two young men) were very unprofessional and making inappropriate comments. This made an initial bad impression but I had high hopes that this was just an isolated incident.
Upon entering our room, we realized the television was not working. I called the front desk to make the staff aware and they were able to send someone to fix the TV. This was only a temporary fix and did not work properly the rest of my stay. The bathroom touch mirror did not work. There was no proper drainage so the bathroom flooded after showers resulting in us having to use all of the available towels. The pillows had minimum filling which made it highly uncomfortable to sleep.
During the time we were getting ready for dinner, the fire alarm went off causing everyone to evacuate the building. After finally making it to dinner and being seated, my friend asked what options on the menu she could eat since she has a severe allergic reaction to shellfish. The waiter was unknowledgeable about the menu and advised he would send the manager or chef to come and discuss some options. Unfortunately, this never happened and my friend was unable to eat properly during our time at the table.
Since the service and our dishes were taking extremely long to come out, we asked the waiter to box up the rest of the dishes we didn’t receive so we can eat later in the room. We ended up going out that night and after returning to the room, we discovered that none of the dinner items were packed and we were charged for MULTIPLE items we did not receive.
I spoke with the manager, Ifi, to discuss my room issues and concerns about dinner. She seemed unconcerned and non empathetic.
I learned upon waiting for the valet to bring my car, one of the Nobu employees advised that concierge cars were available to drive hotel guests around the city upon their request. This was VERY disheartening to hear because me and my friends did leave the hotel to visit other establishments and had to pay fees to park. Finding out that I was not made aware of the full perks of my stay was very disappointing to hear.
To make matters worse, as my friend was pulling off to head home, she discovered over $6k worth of items were stolen from her console. She immediately headed back towards the hotel to make manager on duty aware and instead of receiving any type of urgency to assist, she was faced with attitude and unwillingness to help. The manager seemed unconcerned and unfazed, would not run the cameras back when asked, and refused to give the names of the staff who were working the shift last night.
This was such a traumatic experience for me and my friends who only wanted to support me for my birthday at your establishment. I am HIGHLY disappointed and will NOT be returning to this establishment or any of your...
