My wife and her cousin enjoyed their steaks, but I'm leaving this review primarily because of the behavior and attitude of our server as well as the frat house-like atmosphere of this restaurant.
For a place that likes to present itself as the epitome of fine dining, the atmosphere should have been embarassing to the staff. Loud, abnoxious drunks inhabited nearly every table on this Monday night. I could not hear or converse with my family due to the noise.
Worse yet, our server constantly encouraged the raucous behavior of a table of drunks who would not stop yelling and swearing. I can only imagine that he did so because they were buying round after round of drinks. He took and filled multiple drink orders from them, stopping at their table and playing around with them no fewer than three times before bringing us our mocktails. When he asked what kind of alcoholic drinks we would like , my wife and I instead ordered coffee. He visibly rolled his eyes at her when she said she wanted espresso. I know that mocktails and coffee don't run up the check the way that alcohol does, but my money is still good and I expect to be treated like a valued customer when paying this much money for the food and the experience of purported fine dining.
The final straw for me is the attitude that the server gave me when I expressed dissatisfaction with my filet. I had ordered it medium-rare and I was brought a filet that, other than being seared, was totally raw. The center was cold when I bit into it. When he brought it out the second time, it was still raw despite the exterior being burnt to a crisp. When I again told the server that I wanted it medium-rare, he began to argue with me about what I had originally wanted. He attempted to gaslight me into believing that this completely raw steak was what I had ordered. He spoke to me as if I as I was an idiot. The third time he brought it out, the center was now medium and the exterior was burnt to the point that the steak no longer had any flavor. I gave up at this point and resigned myself to eating food that I did not want because the alternative of continuing to deal with this server and his attitude was less appealing than giving up on getting what I paid for.
The restaurant did comp my filet, which prevented me from escalating things further with management, but the real and irreversable damage was done by the server's attitude and his negligence towards us when we did not order alcohol. I'm embarassed to have brought my family here and will not return. Many things need to change here if this place wants to posture itself as being in the same catagory as a place...
Read moreIt’s my 11-year wedding anniversary, and we find ourselves in the “day after Valentine’s Day” crowd. I live an hour from Buckhead these days, so we literally landed here because they had last-minute reservations available, though early. Regardless, it was a solid choice. I’m going to start with items I would return for that’s a “must-try.” You have to get the Manhattan for a cocktail. This restaurant makes it clear that all cocktails are not created equal. It’s aromatic, well-balanced, and potent, so make sure you’re not the driver. I’d return for the crab cakes, which is truly filler-free with a delicious mustard sauce on the bottom of the dish. And third, I’d return for the New York strip. It was beautifully executed, a tad of char, perfectly seasoned, buttery and tender. Perhaps the best steak I’ve had in a restaurant. The unfortunate part is that the dishes I would return for were all of my husband’s choices, so I was at his mercy. I ordered the oyster Rockefeller to start, and while it was good, the oyster was lost a little and it could have been served warmer. Plus, in the darkness of the restaurant, I mistook the rock salt on the plate for a mound of melted cheese and found myself crunching into it with great displeasure. (You’ve been warned.) I also ordered the red fish with brown butter sauce. I couldn’t really tell that there was actually crab on top, perhaps because of the dish’s richness. However, the biggest issue was the lack of flavor. There is no better way to say it, but there simply was none. I asked our server for a pepper sauce, and she recommended a bearnaise sauce, which has tarragon. It was all the flavor I needed! It definitely helped, and I cleaned my plate. For sides, we had the creamed corn, which had layers of flavor and was really good, as well as the mashed potatoes. I didn’t eat much of the potatoes because I couldn’t tell if they were homemade or instant, and that’s not good. The cheese on top came to the rescue, but wasn’t effective enough for me to continue to indulge in it. We were full by dessert, but they gave us some complimentary chocolate covered strawberries, which were so decadent. Loved it! The ambiance was very dim and sexy, but we were seated in a section where tables are a mere 2 feet apart and right next to the kitchen. (If you click on my cheesy mashed potatoes video, you can hear the young lady at the table next to me mention something about $2,000 and sounds as if she’s at our table, or the steak video picks up the entire dialogue from their table.) Not the best seating, but the service made up for it. In all, I would return in the...
Read moreIn a word, DISAPPOINTING. The main failure was the inadequate service, but the food also left something to be desired. It started with our wedding anniversary reservation request for a "quiet, intimate table", but we were seated in a noisy spot and had to fight to hear each other. Disappointing, considering there was a quiet booth ten feet away that was empty all evening, next to an identical booth where another couple was seated. In an of itself this wouldn't have been a big deal, but it was an omen of things to come. The wine was served promptly, as were the salads, but we would have much preferred eating our salads with our steaks. Our waiter never bothered to ask, though. My wife's steak was overcooked, which is not excusable considering the establishment. I proceeded to eat my bone-in ribeye but after two mouth fulls of pure fat I started inspecting the pieces. I cut through half of the steak before I found a piece that wasn't just fat. By fat, I do NOT mean marbling. I have eaten many, many prime cuts of beef and the bone-in ribeye is my favorite. This beef was garbage and should've never left the kitchen. It took a while to flag down our waiter, then he reported back that all of their ribeyes would be the same as the one I was served so I ordered a bone-in fillet instead. This is the first time in my life that I have every rejected a ribeye steak, even at your basic "Longhorn" type chain restaurant. It took quite a while for the new steak to arrive, so the chef seemed in no hurry. By this time my appetite was gone so I took a bit or two of the fillet and was done. The evening was capped off with the unnecessary rudeness of the valet attendant. All-in-all, a memorable evening, but not in a good way. I can say with great confidence that you will do better going to Fleming's, Bones, Pampas, or many other local steakhouses. To be perfectly fair, I must say that the restaurant staff was very pleasant and friendly, particularly the...
