I have had multiple experiences of racial profiling at this establishment. It’s honestly a shame, because this is definitely the best pizza in the city and I would never lie about that. The last time I visited I arrived with three of my kid cousins, they’re between the ages of 6 and 8. For context, I’m a 20 something LGBTQ black woman. I arrived with my cousins after taking them out to the movies to have an “us” day and treat them to my “favorite pizza spot” in the city. I raved about it so much on the way there, the kids were so excited. Upon arrival I already noticed the glares lol, I’m black, gay, and work in the entertainment industry (music/tv) so perhaps I look malnourished and homely who knows, most of my favorite celebrities do…soo who cares lol I always assume that my “The Northface” jacket or clean pair of Sambas would make people realize that I’m a paying customer that tips exceedingly well but anyways.
We instantly received glares. As we sat down the waitress informed me that I would need to pay immediately as I ordered. I followed up by letting her know that I frequent the restaurant and I had never been asked to do such things before and to that she told me that it was a “new policy.” I knew she was lying lol but I had no issue, I ordered whatever the kids wanted and tipped her handsomely even before receiving the service.
There was only one other family in the restaurant at the time. They ended up finishing their meal before the kids and I did. As the family finished their meal another waitress went over to their table and I watched the father of the family hand her his credit card. I wasn’t shocked whatsoever but I immediately called my waitress over to inform her on what I just witnessed…she then began to stumble over her words and tells me that some waitresses forget to ask ahead of time and blah blah blah.
I didn’t feel embarrassed nor was I upset. I felt as though a restaurant I once thought was cool and bragged about was suddenly lame and had lost all of its cred. I recently went back (only has been a two month difference). I had a waiter named Ben. He was polite and extremely nice. This time I came with two friends around my age, one guy one girl (both black). I asked Ben about their policy on requesting guests to pay upfront and he was instantly confused. He told me that that “wasn’t a thing” and apologized on the behalf of the restaurant because he didn’t know what I was talking about nor who would have asked me to do such a thing.
I love the pizza and lemon pepper wings but sadly I can never return. You all treat people a certain way and it’s okay. I know that me and my money are unwelcomed at your establishment. When I look back on it there were 2-3 other racially charged incidents that occurred on some of my visits prior to the one mentioned above but this was the final one that made me stop giving you all grace and realize that the other instances were just as racist. Thanks for the great pizza, seriously, but I honestly hope people take the time to read this and if you are POC and dress like you’re from LA/NY definitely pass on this...
Read moreI have never been more disgusted by a business than I was this past Sunday at Rocky Mountain Pizza. As diehard Eagles fans, my friends, family, and I have frequented this bar throughout the season to watch the games, bringing our support and money week after week. However, after what happened during the Super Bowl, I will never return, and I strongly urge others to reconsider supporting this establishment.
After standing in line for an hour—understandable given the Super Bowl crowd—we finally got inside, only to find no available tables. We noticed two open tables nearby and asked security if we could sit there. Security had no issue with it, so we sat down. But almost immediately, a man named Mike, who claimed to be the owner, came over and aggressively berated us—two Black women—screaming in our faces and demanding that we leave the table. When I calmly explained that security had told us we could sit there, he dismissed it entirely, saying he didn’t care what security said and that we needed to move immediately.
Meanwhile, the men in our group were across the room at the bar, but when they saw Mike screaming at us, they came over to de-escalate the situation. Instead of handling things professionally, Mike put his hands on my male cousin, smacking his back. When my cousin rightfully told him to keep his hands off, Mike ran to security and had him removed from the bar—despite the fact that Mike was the aggressor from the beginning.
The fact that this man thought it was acceptable to put his hands on a paying customer, scream in the faces of Black women, and then have us removed is beyond unacceptable. What’s even more disturbing is that many people who look like me have supported and spent money at this business for years, only to be treated with blatant disrespect by the so-called owner.
And honestly? If I’m being real, this bar isn’t even that great—it’s the energy of the patrons that made it fun, not the establishment itself. But after this experience, I wouldn’t spend another dime there. If this is how Rocky Mountain Pizza treats the very people who have helped keep their business thriving, I suggest we all take our support elsewhere.
Mike, since you were so eager for us to leave and “go ahead and write a review”—here you go.
Safe to say, I won’t be back. And...
Read moreI have eaten at Rocky Mountain a few times and have only been satisfied with the soup and salad lunch special they have. Very well-seasoned, warm and consistent.
BUT…..
Now I have purchased wings and waffle fries and the first time I thought wow for $4 that sure is a small amount of fries. I didn’t think anything of it outside of that until I wanted a sandwich and didn’t feel like going far, so I ordered again. This time I counted the fries and it was nine total. My co-workers didn’t believe me, so I ordered a week later and I let them count and wallah NINE fries. I called and asked what the method was and the cook told the young lady on the phone that it is “weighed”. Hmmm so no matter the size, which will equal a different weight I will always get nine fries? Gave them another chance since I am a Philly guy and it’s a Philly bar and decided to purchase the onion rings (a co-worker had purchased the day before and got a plethora) and what do you know, I got 5 onion rings ranging in size. Nothing compared to the amount my co-worker got the day before. I took a few months off of Rocky Mountain and decided today, I’m hungry and again don’t feel like going far, so let’s give them one last chance. SMH as you see in the pictures attached I got a veggie burger with added onions (additional $.50) and a side salad (which I know is good from the soup and salad) NO FRIES. The burger was thrown together (although very tasty) and the salad was boring with an Italian vinaigrette that was just olive oil and Italian seasoning = no taste. I didn’t write a review on the fries, but this was the last straw. Since the owner reads this I hope they can get to the bottom of this because it’s a great place with a great ambiance, just below average food outside of pizza. Oh Yea E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
