I went in there for the first time today because I recently became a vegan after being a vegetarian four four years. So when I first went inside I noticed that it seemed like a calm place, and I definitely was confused as to how go about ordering. Eventually, a lady told me to get in line and tell the server my order. So I asked him what they had and he told me they had Kale Bone, and I almost skipped past it until he told me to sample it....BAY BAE (had a moment). It was so great... If you want something great and do not know what to get, I am telling you get the KALE BONE! I also had rice and gravy which was pretty good. I think my body reacted to it negatively though, if I think about any negative thought about my food while I am eating it, I get sick and that is what happened ( I truly couldn't enjoy the gravy without thinking about whether or not they snuck some meat into it... I know they wouldn't but I think that about everything I eat thats vegetarian or vegan). I have also never had gravy without meat lol. They gave me a side salad which was tasty as well, seeing that I absolutely hate salad without croutons, the dressing was great and the server was very informative about eating clean and getting healthy. This is my new favorite spot, and its sad that I have walked past it so many times. I was starving today, and every restaurant I wanted to eat at was not vegan friendly, I was having melt down. Lastly. the most important part of the meal for me was the MAC N CHEESE. I am a huge mac n cheese fan and I am glad that I was able to find a place that allowed me to keep my love for the tasty dish alive. I wish I remember the servers name but he also said to me " because its your first time, I will let you enjoy your meal but that is way too much starch"! I am the queen of starchy foods and maybe I am just ranting but It really meant a lot to me that someone cared about my health and wellness as much as he did. From the vibe I received from the restaurant, maybe its the whole family that is that way and I am definitely returning with my friends, this is my new spot.
Serious note: This is a very relaxing environment. The staff members are very informative, and courtesy to the customers.I enjoyed the family aspect and watching the workers build connections with the customers. I really felt great being there today, and that is rare. Majority of the time I looked out the window and watched as the community came in. They were all greeted as brother or sister and that made me feel appreciated. I can say that I was offered anything to drink until way after I started eating, and that was definitely new to me. I will say I didnt have a water in my purse and I was just going to drink that because I didnt want to seem like I was bothering anyone. The water was actually Alkaline water and it was definitely refreshing.
I loved this place, I just wish the AUC knew how cool this place was. I graduated out of the AUC, and I know so many vegans and vegetarians who would love this place just because of the location, the vibe of the restaurant and the food. Its so easy for everyone to say negative things about the westend but when you go into this place, none of that matters. Its like being home. I will definitely be blogging about this place. Let me end this review I've been writing far too much. If you are reading this: Take a chance and go. You will love it. I promise. The food was great and wasn't expense at all. 12 and some change and you are good...
Read moreWe have eaten at Soul Vegetarian #2 and enjoyed it so we figured the original location would be equally satisfactory. This was the worst experience I’ve had at any establishment ever. They are totally unorganized and the food was decent at best. It took 20 minutes for someone to take our order and that’s not the worst part. Supposedly they ran out of food but after an additional 15 minutes of waiting a magical entree appeared. Although we wanted to leave, our kids were whiny and starving so we gave it a shot. After getting the food, we waited at the register for a additional 10 minutes and no one came to cash us out. I said “F” it and sat my family down to eat after nearly an hour of “F’n” around in this line.
Guess what we found out once tasting the food?!?!?! It was COLD.... not cold as if it had been sitting on the serving line a while... NO.... cold like it had been refrigerated just to see how upset it could make a customer. I laughed about it because it all seemed so surreal at the time. We could have easily walked out without paying because the place was such a zoo. However, I’m a firm believer that whatever energy you put out in this world is sure to find you. Plus I have two little girls that need me to lead them the right way and stealing isn’t on the leadership list. When I went to the register I was asked why I was paying for the food twice (LOL). I simply said I didn’t pay and satisfied the debt prior to running away from that establishment like a chase scene in a horror film.
Sad that this is a recommended option for vegans. How can the community grow with s#% shows like this representing the culture? I wish google would allow zero stars so I could rate this...
Read moreI heard about this place from a friend and since it is in the neighborhood I thought I give it a try. I was so excited once I arrived and I saws it was cafeteria style but the food was covered. The menu only told you dinner was an entree and two sides. So I was waited patiently while waiting to be served. I asked the young lady what was being served to night and she told me the older man who was serving would tell me. So I told her it was my first time here, hoping that would make her treat me like a welcomed guest. I guess I was asking for to much. The older gentleman opened the first tray and food smelt and looked good. He then took the young ladies who was in front of me order. The young lady that was short with me previously came to front to help served so I asked her what was under the other tray and she opened it and said it was barbecue kale bones. I told her I wanted what was in the previous tray. She said to me it is the same thing. I said that the other tray looks better to me. She told me I had to get it from that tray. I said that's not what I want. So I asked her did she just not want my patronage? Her response was firm on that's what I had to be served. I said the older gentleman just gave the young ladies the food from that tray. She just looked at me. I ldecidw to leave. I asked the older gentleman her name and he said "RIA. So I didn't have opportunity to tell you if food was good or not. Maybe I try again.
Anyway I ended up at Viva la vegan up street on Lee street. The a little price but at least they were polite. Checkout my review...
