This location in particular claims to not accept cash. The idea that BigFoot Java is cashless goes against recent local ordinance installed by King County for cash reliant civilians. There exemptions businesses can apply for during hardships, but it is unclear if Bigfoot Java applied for this exemption and has the legality to refuse cash. However, this isn’t necessarily what’s really going on: It should be noted that Bigfoot Java DOES accept cash at this location, they just cannot give owed change back to the customer. If a location is going to be exempt from accepting cash, they cannot accept cash at all unless it’s a direct tip to the employees working at the time. Otherwise, it’s straight up theft. I asked one of the employees if they were able to “tip themselves” by ringing up the drink as a cash payment, and just tipping themselves with my change. I was told they could do that, I just couldn’t receive my change. I don’t see how any exemption or law can protect Bigfoot Java from giving people their change back. It either needs to be full cashless, or they need to accept tender and legally give what they owe to the customer back. The laws surrounding this are unclear, but I’ll continue to be vigilant and try to reply to this post to keep people updated.
TLDR BigfootJava Auburn Way South (by HWY18) DOES accept cash, they just cannot give change back to customers.
It should be noted the service here is “okay”. Some employees are rude, others are kind and ensure the customer is happy with what they ordered before the customer leaves. Sometimes it really feels like the employees are here to just do their job, get paid, and that’s it. It should be more about the customer too. In my experiences at this location, the service has never been “bad”, and I understand some people have bad days. I try to talk with the baristas as they’re accepting payment, a simple “Hello how are you?” And sometimes the baristas just look at me like I’m crazy for saying anything other than what I would like to have. The atmosphere is upbeat, and they’re always playing music. Some people think it’s cool, some people dislike it. I personally think it’s cool, I enjoy seeing the baristas have a good time. I just wish they would be more inclusive of their customers. It seems like they have a job to do, it sucks, they hate it, etc. rather than an opportunity to make customers happy.
Overall this location isn’t too bad, it’s just frustrating not getting your change. Feels like a “forced tip” and it feels like theft, and with only one or two local ordinances managing cash payment options, it’s unclear if them keeping your change is theft. I consider it to be.
It should also be noted that there isn’t a notice that cash isn’t accepted on one of their windows (the window facing the strip mall, unsure if there is a notice posted on the window facing the road leading to HWY18. I will update this post with photos of both windows when I go next...
Read moreHi there!
My family just moved to Auburn and when searching for best coffee around us we located Big Foot Java.
Our barista was sweet however my concern is this:
I order a $2.75 americano with NO flavor added. My total at the window came to if I’m not mistaken $4.75! I asked for the receipt and when viewing it I saw that she added a “specialty flavor.”
I questioned her about what she meant by the specialty flavor and she said “You added cream and sugar. That’s a specialty flavor.”
This is the first time in my life I have seen a coffee go up two dollars simply for asking for cream and sugar.
I emailed their manager Britnee and her e-mail response was , “I will URGENTLY look into this and get back to you…” I gave Britnee two days thinking that was plenty of time for her “urgent response.” I did not hear from her after two days so I emailed her again. This time a week went by…. She never emailed me back.
It’s one thing for a barista to make a mistake. But to have a “manager” someone who had been promoted as such follow up with such poor customer service is so disheartening to me.
Will not ever return to this coffee kiosk due to sneaking in $2 extra for a drink (I guess that’s how they make money) nor will I go back due to their poor...
Read moreI usually love visiting Bigfoot when I am on this side of the state, but this location was by far the WORST experience I’ve had at any Bigfoot. When I arrived there was only 1 car in front of me, but their 3 drinks were all made incorrectly and I waited 20 minutes for their car to get sorted out. Finally when it was my turn at the window, I order my quad espresso with white choc and a splash of hemp, and wait. The barista was on her phone texting the whole time and what is normally a 3 minute drink took 10 minutes. Then, after I give her my debit card, she tells me my total ($6.50) which was significantly more than usual ($3.00ish). When I asked, she had upcharged me for a latte with 2 extra shots, extra powder, and hemp. I told her that’s not what I ordered and she continued to charge the wrong amount while offering to replace it with the cheaper (and correct) drink. I had already been waiting for 30 minutes so I said no and went on my way, only to find coffee grounds in the bottom of my cup. Very disappointed. As a barista, I know everyone has off days, but this was...
