This restaurant was not what I expected at all. It's located toward the end of the strip mall connected to H-Mart and really doesn't impress from the outside. Plenty of parking although the asphalt could really use a refresh.
The interior is bright and clean, and I didn't realize this was a Korean chain before I read some of the other reviews. They specialize in Korean stew dishes which don't really do them justice. Honestly the descriptions don't translate well so non-adventurous American eaters may struggle a bit.
We tried one of their more famous spicy pork stew dishes which is enough for 3-4 people. The default spiciness was pretty low - probably 1-2 on a 5 point scale. The pork was fall-off the bone, and there were a lot of bones, which may put off some people. But it was delicious and worth it.
Others have mentioned their kimchee and it was definitely some of the best we've had at a restaurant. More on the sweet side, with a little kick, and not really sour at all. It was so good we ordered some to go along with our left overs.
The leftovers and kimchee were packed up and sealed with a plastic film top. Kind of what you see on some boba teas, but much thicker. They even give you a special tool to cut the plastic when you're ready.
Service was fast and friendly. Overall highly recommended and will definitely...
Read moreMoobongri is an area in Korea known for its soondae (Korean blood sausage) and is also one of the most popular, if not the most popular, soondae chain restaurants in Korea. Having had Moobongri Soondae in Korea before, I was both excited and nervous to try this location's. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
First off, the restaurant is squeaky clean from the dining area to the bathrooms. No matter how good the food is, if a restaurant is dirty, it's an automatic turn-off for me.
The food was not exactly like the one I had in Korea but it was pretty close! The best thing here is the kimchi. The kimchi is probably the best and most authentic I have had in Colorado. The spicy soondae soup had a deep flavor and was really good with a healthy portion of meat. The side plate of meats was good but, again, just doesn't have that exact Korean flavor which is masked when put into the soup. I would definitely not get the tteokbbokki here. It was very watery and flavorless. No stars were taken away for the tteokbbokki though since they really aren't known for that.
Service was spot on. We never had to wait too long on anything. Big thumbs up here because we had some leftovers to go and they have a cool plastic wrap machine that really secures everything. They also gave me some extra kimchi!
This place definitely has the best soondae...
Read moreIt’s so nice to have a Korean establishment that specializes in soondae! Soondae can be a new and unique flavor experience if you haven’t had it, so it isn’t for everyone. We enjoyed their soondae combo. The soondae itself is chewy, flavorful & has great bounce. However, they also offer a wonderful variety of soups & stews that will warm the soul. We personally love gamjatang, it’s not overtly flavorful, very meaty flavor, and the broth can cure a cold or hangover! We tried their spicu brisket stew as well which was packed with meat and vegetables! If you’re familiar with Korean stew staples, they really get it right.
The food here is classic, homey, cozy, and quaint. The owners were so pleasant and accommodating! They even moved us to a larger table because they didn’t think our food would fit at a smaller one.
Overall a welcome new establishment in the Colorado restaurant scene! It’s nice to see restaurants coming up that specialize in a niche food rather than American...
