Some of you may recall that this location was once upon at time the Comedy Shrine. Gone are the knick-knacks, tchotchkes, and problematic comedian images (cough Louis CK cough ⦠COSBY) that covered the walls from floor to ceiling. The space has been overhauled and feels welcoming.
The community on which the Bit Theater is built reflects the physical changes made to the theater space. Performers are open minded, welcoming, gracious, kind ⦠and most importantly talented.
Shows range from long and short form improv, thematic serialized adventures, immersive interactive theater, guest improv troupes, and sketch comedy. Iāve sampled everything the Bit Theater has to offer and have walked away from every show entertained. Itās an escape for me. I always leave in a better mood than when the evening started. The performers give 100% every show.
The bar area has a selection of beers, wines, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages. The Bit Theater does not have a drink minimum. This is a big difference from other comedy clubs or improv theaters. Try going to Zanies, the Laugh Factory, or the Improv in Schaumburg without someone forcing you to buy two overpriced drinks because of the ātwo drink minimumā. Plus free parking - I know Zanies Rosemont validates, but they act like itās a problem every time I ask.
Classes are available and the offerings change frequently. Iāve gone to a few of the improv drop in classes and had a blast. There are longer and more intensive classes that focus on specific skills. Iāve even seen a Sketch Writing class, and I cannot say Iāve ever seen that offered by another improv theater.
At the end of the day itās cheaper than going to see a movie, and you never know what kind of fun you are in for. I will keep going back to the Bit. The Bit Theater delivers laughs and a great...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had seen an improv show while visiting my sister in Denver. We walked by the theater and thought: "Let's!" We had seen Middleditch & Schwartz! We considered ourselves funny, and if not funny at least humorous. We would certainly appreciate it. And we did! I flew home, sated. My local library was having a no-commitment 1 hour improv class run by the Bit. It felt like a sign. A sign I could push myself. A sign I could try and then... well. Then I would have tried. I almost didn't walk into the class. What was I thinking? Who did I think I even was? Michael explained that all I had to do was listen. Listening is not my strong suit. Nor, I imagine, is it most people's. When was the last time someone had really listened to you that you hadn't had to co-pay? I kept coming back. Signing up for more. I started listening in my life. I started to be confident and take up space. I stopped apologizing for having thoughts. I stepped out of anxiety and onto the stage. But it's not as dramatic as all that. I know that EVERYONE could do it. Take that first step. Listen. Be heard. Commit...
