In the last few months I've had 5 sandwiches from here. The first one was incredible (the 5.0). I went over and tried the Home Slice Pizza sandwich which had just won the Austin Chronicle best sandwich in Austin award a few days later and wondered why Cheba Hut didn't get it. I tried the cream cheese the second going and was unhappy that they left most of the vegie and topping ingredients off, didn't seem to be "toasted", and was flattened as apposed to the 5.0 which was opened. I went back for the 5.0 and it was again great. The fourth time with the 5.0 was "okay" (not toasted). The 5-0 sandwich I had a few days ago was not open faced, was missing a lot of the vegies and seasoning on top, was drenched in dressing and didn't come with the type of bread I had requested. I've seen this with so many restaurants that have come and gone in Austin. They start out great, but somewhere along the line quality control and consistency get dropped. I'll return for another 5.0 at some point, but it will be the last time if quality control and consistency hasn't improved.
Update:
Went back a few weeks ago and ordered the 5.0 again. It was missing some of the vegie items and appeared to have skimped on some of the ingredients. I get that when it comes to sandwiches it's difficult to be consistent. I also realize you might have regular staff turnover, and many different people making the sanwiches. The cookie I had was good, but...
Read moreI was initially looking for another restaurant but since I’ve been a patron for a long time of the OG restaurant in Az, and had very pleasant experiences here in the past, I believe I met the franchise owner the first time coming in a little over a year ago. I been a repeat customer ever since. So I decided to stop by. I waited a bit while looking at the menu I don’t know 3-5 minutes. Then a respectful gentleman got to the register to help me, he was working both the bar and the register it seemed, so the wait was more than understandable. The second that he asked me what I would like to order, a hostile cook started yelling at the top of his lungs “we’re closed , we’re closed!! “ mind you it was around 11:30pm(they close 12:00am) and the restaurant still had customers eating inside. I was shocked, I’ve never seen this before, I just said that’s ok, the gentleman at the register appeared slightly embarrassed which left me with some hope for this location. I don’t think anyone hopes that a mentally unstable cook, incapable of controlling his emotional impulses, to handle their food. There must be a blunder in the managerial structure here, subordinate challenges was apparent. To me unfortunately the worst experience I’ve ever had with a cook, ever, and I’ve been everywhere. I don’t believe that a distressed, out of pocket cook has any business in the hospitality business. Also any man shouldn’t be yelling...
Read moreThere is an employee who is a short white women with many tattoos who was just absolutely rude. She called out the sandwich to see who it was rather than a name so when i went up to inspect and see if that sandwich belonged to me she had perhaps one of the worst attitudes i’ve probably ever experienced in customer service and drastically so compared to the younger cashier lady i had made my order with. She first asked if that sandwich was mine and I said i’m not quite sure as this was my first time ordering from here and i had gotten the recommendation from the cashier lady. She proceeded to rudely speak to me as if i was some incompetent individual so I asked her well does it say my name and she just kept responding how there’s no name on the receipt and when i mentioned i wasn’t sure so to not grab someone else’s sandwich she kept telling me to contents of the sandwich as if i knew despite repeatedly telling her to ask her coworker as it was her recommendation of popular sandwiches at the establishment. I was completely taken back by how she choose to talk to me rather than help me ensure i was collecting my meal i ordered rather than that of someone else’s. Great sandwich just shocking customer service particularly her. Again, shorter white older lady with tats all over including her...
