A sudden craving for authentic Baja style, fish tacos and a fortunate Google search lead us to Ensenada ATX today. What an amazing find! I wish there were more stars to share.
First, the weather was perfect for an al fresco food court adventure. It led through a cute and bustling courtyard filled with lots of options (burgers, Italian, Mexican, Venezuelan), to the back, where the bright orange food truck emblazoned with Ensenada ATX was located. Fortunately we were at the front of the line that was soon to follow.
The menu offered simple, very tempting and appealing options, but we were on a mission for Baja style fish tacos, so we stayed on course. Ordered a plate of tacos and some fresh limonada.
While we waited, we were invited to sample some delicious artisan made salsa macha and gourmet brownies. Both, delicious. Purchased enthusiastically.
Come to find out, this is a family enterprise. Salsa Macha made by the daughter to the beautiful woman who took our order at the food truck. And the scrumptious brownies, made by her darling granddaughter.
I can't tell you how delicious these tacos were. Spot on! Crispy, light and well seasoned, beer battered fresh fish. Crisp cabbage garnished perfectly with tangy sauce and lime. And perfectly tender tortillas. Served with hand pressed limonada in Topo Chico bottles! Sparkling perfection!!
So while we noshed on these delicious fish tacos, we visited with this family, and were so impressed!
We watched the proprietor, and both her daughter and granddaughter share their delicious food and visit with with patrons--all skillfully adept and ASL. Turns out, their family ran a mission school for hearing impaired/deaf children, where the proprietor volunteered teaching sign language as an instructor for many years.
We were so happy-- feeling blessed to encounter these delightful human beings and discover not only their delicious authentic food--but their wonderful family.
I'm so excited to have discovered, not only this food truck, but these wonderful folks. Can't wait...
Read moreI've frustratingly and unsuccessfully searched this vast region far and wide for this style of cuisine and had come up disappointingly (and somewhat miserably) short: until this afternoon. I found the elusive city of gold here. This weary traveller is enraptured and elated with today's discovery! I fell in love with fish tacos and ceviche tostadas exploring the fronteras of Baja California many moons ago. If you've ever experienced the magic of Mexican seafood (particularly from the Baja frontera region) then you know. The owner of Ensenada glows. Her warm smile and the wisdom she exudes really made my day. The food is exactly what I've been seeking for 4 years now. It's the authentic item. Don't miss the fish tacos or the ceviche tostada & don't forget to dash some Salsa Huichol (the most commonly served bottled salsa in Baja) on the items you order. I can't wait to return and bring loved ones to this rare gem...
Read moreUsed to live in San Diego and was addicted to the Baja Style fish tacos at Rubios out west. Since coming to Austin 5 years ago, nothing came close or was even available in this same genre. But one day I just googled baja style fish tacos and Ensenada ATX popped up. So I had to try... and they were fabulous! A much larger piece of beer battered cod I believe, that didn't even fit in the tortilla. Very hot and crunchy. My only complaint is the location because the food truck is in a very rocky little park, towards the back, with other food trucks there. Be careful not to twist an ankle on the way in and out. But this great discovery will not keep me away! Will try the shrimp taco as well next time. A little pricey at $7 each with a Mexican Coke another $4. Don't love the location... but...
