I booked this hotel solely for its supposed proximity to the downtown shuttle bus to zilker park,Its not ,I have to take an uber or public transportation to either the shittle or to Zilker.I was verbally told ,without requesting it btw, that I'd be put on a high floor ,initially I wasn't so I had to sheepishly request one seeming like I was now viewed as one of those Karen customers . I was verbally told on the phone that there was a bathtub in every room ,( so I could soak after walking Zilker park all day at ACL) There were none available except maybe on the 4th floor in a handicap room IF it was available...so I was told. I stayed in my room which for the price is a beat up cheaply designed room with no closet, no safe ,and some sort of metal tubular rack bolted to the wall for your clothes? No chest of drawers just a weird ugly cabinet/ stand housing on one side refrigerator that didn't seem cold at all,and on the opposite side hid the tiniest coffee maker with no dedicated spot to use it other than near the phone and the lamp on said ugly stand so not to be smack dab in front of the TV. The bathroom too has only a cheap tubular metal rack that a few towels resting on it. But the sink was housed outside the bathroom right near the entry .? It was designed with neither rhyme nor reason ( or expense.)The only thing that had thought behind it was the assortment of snacks and libations for sale Anything from an $11dollar bag of chips,or a candy bar of the same price to half your standard sized bottles of tequila or vodka for $65.I confess it was a large hotel with a cheap roadside motel feel inside the room. The " Breakfast on us" depicted as a sit down restaurant online isn't as it's actilly from an ( albeit nice enough)stand in the lobby where you have to find somewhere to eat your ala cart sandwich or whatever else they can make at a makeshift open prep station behind the counter?I was told parking was included for my level of reservation, it wasnt ,i found out when i looked it up online that it was $45 bucks a nite and called to inform them that it was supposed to be included,it was waived, but in return this is where I got a good portion of the incorrect info. It's not an absolutely horrible hotel, but I would not have chosen to stay here if I'd seen it or knew of all the things that didnt meet my standard of stay in any hotel above a hostel .It didn't meet ANY of my expectations didn't fulfill and of its promises and I most certainly didn't get what I paid for at $300 plus a night.I don't make the time to post negative reviews very often, (or at all ) but this got into my pocket, my time, and my ability to have the luxury of staying in a hotel. I'm on permanent disability with very budgeted funds and I just don't feel comfortable wasting my money like this for grab and go meals, non lux rooms and an overall sense of...
Read moreOriginally, I was staying at the Austin Marriott Downtown for my business trip. The hotel arrangements were set-up by my company. That was wonderful. Really like that hotel and everything about it. Not one negative thing to say about it. When the arrangements were made originally it was for one night. My company went in and tried to add another night but couldn’t, so I was forced to change hotels. I was set-up by my company to then stay at the Downright Austin, A Renaissance Hotel for the second night. Thinking it was a sister Marriott hotel and more expensive the thought was it would be just as nice. Not even close. First, it was not nice at all in comparison to the Austin Marriott Downtown. I got in late because of work related dinners/meetings. From the time I walked in to the time of check in, nothing was the same. No greeter outside, bellman, nothing. While I get it was late, that was not the case at the other hotel. It honestly didn’t feel like a Marriott at all. It felt like a cheap motel. I was not impressed. I checked in got my key and that was it. Not shown were to go like the other hotel, no one to offer with my bags. It was loud in the lobby as well. The music was too loud. There was no security at the elevator or security measures made at the elevator. I appreciate when traveling alone for business hotels that have that. Went up to my floor and to my room. The room was adequate but nothing special. Looked old and run down. All night long it sounded like people were moving furniture or dropping things above me. Maybe remodeling? Never was told that was happening. I could also hear every person that went down the hallway. And the light from the hallway shined in under the door. I barely slept. There was no ice on my floor, you had to go to another floor. That room I guess was under construction cause there was a mess in there. Since I couldn’t sleep much, I got ready very early and left the hotel by maybe 6:15am. For what my company paid $416.43 for one night you would think it would have been so much better. Not even close! The owner of my company travels all the time and is incessant about staying at Marriott’s. I always have enjoyed my stays with Marriott as well however, this was awful. I would never stay there again and I will tell everyone when going to Austin not to stay there. I guess I need to do more do-diligence to check into future Marriott’s before I have someone book a stay for me. ...
Read moreThey should have named this the DownWrong. We are business travelers and travel a lot, and mostly stay at Bonvoy properties and have never had a bad experience- until now. This place is a hot mess. I think the designers were going for a funky retro look - well It just comes off as Dollar Store Boutique. Our rate was $400 a night. For that you expect a great experience and surroundings. The place is stark, two small pictures in the entire room. Lighting terrible, it’s hard to see to do your makeup or hair. Wait till you see the bathroom - it is reminiscent of a hospital or prison. The closet is just a metal coat rack - you know the kind your grandma put together for extra storage in the guest bedroom (only thing missing is some wheels)
We are here at a conference of attorneys and financial professionals. I wanted to touch up my suit and put a fresh crease in my jacket - try doing that with a steamer, since there are no irons or ironing boards in the room. I had to call down to the desk at the last minute in the morning. Only to get an iron that left brown streaks on my suit.
As I was leaving my room I wanted to store my valuables and passport in a safe - guess what, no safe! So I called down to the front desk and asked if they have safety deposit boxes, no boxes. So I ask what I’m supposed to do with my valuables, money, electronics while I’m not in the room. Their suggestion was just to find hiding places for them!!! So needless to say, I have been carting around a full heavy backpack all day. And we’ll have to do that for the entire conference. Conveniently, just like sleazy parking garages there’s a disclaimer on the door that the hotel is not responsible for stolen items.
Note to Hotel - if you think your guests are leisure travelers and are set up for that, then you probably shouldn’t book professional conferences, whatever your marketing consultants told you - they are wrong. Professionals want professional amenities you were terribly misguided. Your hotel seems more like a motel 8 at a Ritz price point.
I'm was looking forward to some sun at the pool - that was closed There is loud banging going on in the walls during the day and night. Old pipes maybe?
I complained on Twitter since the manager was not available- the response was pretty much “we don’t care- it’s your problem”. Go Marriott!
Anyway, there’s a lot of great hotels in this area. Do yourself a favor and stay...
