Facility is great! Wonderful bathrooms, cool tap room with a neat vibe. Great overall place that way. Parking is a bit of a pain. Search around though and you'll find something. Now the most important part of a brewery and unfortunately where this place fell short for me, the beer. The good; the session IPA was OK but seemed a bit unpolished and needing more bright tank time. It was overall decent. The Lord Zanate IPA on the other hand was just plain bad. I heard the same refrain from several people around me. Wayyyyyyyyy too malty for an IPA, like heavy malt wafting on the nose malty. Someone clearly loves the dreaded crystal malt here...not a good flex. Almost no hop aroma and just plain sweet like an amber ale...so odd. Really disappointing. Being that I love IPA's I had such high hopes with their hopsquad name after all. The saison was OK but in truth that's not a style I enjoy too often. The roggenbier was alright I guess but just not an exciting beer style for me or my group. I'll come back later on in a few months to see if they've tweaked these recipes and fixed some of the noticeable flaws. I still have hope they'll get it...
Read moreThe staff is friendly and knowledgeable - you very well may find the owners behind the bar - and although they're launching with just 4 brews, many more are coming to their 20 handle tap wall.
3.5 Years Later... Hopsquad is now a preferred spot for light emailing on Friday afternoons, and the twin food trucks with pizza & tacos both deliver the goods when day drifts into evening. I'm a townie, so I steer clear on game days, but I'm told it's the place to be. The fully-formed beer menu has overcome its initial wobbles, which is to say, I've found my favorites. Get a cocktail, too, because sometimes even the best southern European lager isn't gonna do it in the Texas heat.
5.5 Years Later… Hopsquad is now an occasional lunchtime stroll destination and weekend end-of-ride refreshment spot. The Architetto Ruffini and Duchess of Oltorf always hit, and their Professor Pleasant is good for a novel IPA variation. The summer hot dog program at Doughsquad just launched, which I need to try since a pizza is a bit much to do on my own. Drop by for sports or one of their weekly rotation of events - all pretty...
Read moreSuper excited that this brewery is now open after some lengthy delays while the owners prepared the space for the public.
To be completely honest, none of the beers really blew me away -- even though I don't personally care for saisons, the saison was the one beer that was completely on-point, and it's a great example of the style. The American IPA, Session IPA, and Roggenbier (rye beer) that were on tap left a lot to be desired, which was a little surprising given the name of the brewery. I was really hoping the IPAs would be solid from Day One.
I'm confident they will continue to improve the beer recipes over the next several months, and I'm looking forward to some of the other new beer releases they have planned.
Super friendly staff, a dog friendly space, and they have a Japanese-Thai fusion food truck that is permanently on-site. This brewery is a welcome addition to the 78758 Brewery Row!
Edit: The new beers that have been released since they opened have...
