I’m in a wheelchair and we needed two king beds. The room I booked that had two King size bed rooms was given away probably to non-handicapped people before I got there. So they put me at the farthest end of the hallway so I had to struggle every time we went to the elevator and back. Then my wife had to sleep in a cot the entire stay. So I’d say this was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had. They tried to give me Hilton points instead of refunding me the money I paid for a room I didn’t get. Then on the last day they double charged my credit card $530 for the room that I already paid for through Expedia. They said it was common charging some incidentals, scammy sounding practice that would be refunded in 5-10 days… they were not cleared by me before they put the $530 on my credit card without my permission. This weird practice has to be illegal, trying to double charge me for a room I already paid for.
Then the manager said he would cut my stay cost in half which he did for 1-day and comped one day completely because my wife slept on an uncomfortable pull down cot the whole time. I had to book an extra night and the price increased $57 because I didn’t book again through Expedia. On top of that the customer service was terrible. I literally had one front desk lady shrug off the double charge issue and said she didn’t know what she could do after yelling at another worker when I walked up to the front desk. The managers did make it right on the last day but we still had the wrong room the whole time and my wife had to sleep on an uncomfortable pull down cot, wouldn’t recommend. It’s unfortunate because we have family that likes to stay by the domain but we will not recommend this location.
The rooms weren’t bad but the customer service leaves much to be desired.
Also the shower gel and shampoos were 3’6” away from the handicapped shower seat. So I had to stand up and walk across the shower to use the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. I almost fell doing that on the last day. There were also no towel hangers so I just had to put the towel in my wheelchair. Poor design for handicapped and regular people.
As other reviewers said, their bad reviews disappeared, so we will see. Will not be...
Read moreThe Hilton Garden Inn was a savior during the February 2021 Icepocalypse in Austin.
My power went out at 2am on Monday 2/15. Looked for hotels that day, but no luck. We stayed warm with the little firewood we had. Booked 2 hotels for the rest of the week that night. The next day, we loaded up the car and headed to our first hotel. They'd lost power and our reservation was cancelled. Checked the second hotel and they also lost power. Got some firewood and hunkered down at home again. Booked another hotel that night that allowed for a 6am check in. Called in the morning and they'd also lost power, but said they might get it back later on in the day. Drove by later on in the day and the entire area was without power and there were also a few road closures. It was going to be another night of sleeping in 40 degree temps and no running water, but a kind neighbor (Thank you Kailesh Mesuria!) alerted us about a nearby hotel with power, water, and availability. It was the Hilton Garden Inn near Domain.
David Bohac, the kind and personable GM of the new Hilton Garden Inn, was able to secure us a wonderful and brand new room for the next few days. This is an absolutely clean room with a nice king-sized bed, easy to use thermostat, nice bathroom, a space to work, ample lighting, a mini fridge, and a microwave too.
I was also able to get the nicest meal I've had all week at their restaurant downstairs. The Nashville hot chicken on the waffled biscuit was actually spicy and really tasty. I also enjoyed the avocado bites. If I needed anything else, I could also check out the little shop in the lobby which had ice cream, frozen foods, other snacks, drinks, and more.
I would 100% stay here again and would recommend this place to others as well. Not only are the GM and staff pleasant, but the location is close to the Domain and not too far from downtown Austin in general - making a it a great base for a visit.
Thank you David, your staff, and your hotel for keeping us safe, warm, and fed during one of the craziest times in Austin.
And thank you Kailesh for being a...
Read moreOverall we were very pleased with this hotel. The location was close to where we needed to be, the facilities were very up to date and well-kept, the staff was friendly and efficient, and we got a lower room rate than we were expecting. I think that is because the hotel is very close to the Q2 soccer stadium, and the fans probably fill up the hotel when there are games. However, there were no games there during our three day visit, so the hotel was mostly empty and very quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. I’d probably give this hotel 4.5 stars. The hotel breakfast is not included in the base price and is quite expensive; we were happy to eat out instead so that was not a big deal. The signage on the hotel is very strange; once you turn in off Burnet Road, there are no signs, and you are too close to see the sign at the top of the building at that point. The parking garage levels are very steep, to the point of it being difficult to get out of the car with gravity pushing your door shut on you. If you are on the older side or wrestling with getting awkward items out of the car with you, it’s tricky. Oh, and there is no swimming pool. My final small issue was that the bathroom didn’t have a single proper hanger to hang clothes or a toiletry bag on, just a shower hook wedged in between the door frame and the shower frame. These would not be deal-breakers for me, but some people might appreciate knowing these details. I’d definitely stay there again, certainly for the room...
