Summary: Very poor & questionable food hygiene practice with bad customer service! The food my wife ordered was taken back to the kitchen, supposedly to be “fixed”. A minute later it came back out exactly as is, except for visibly less serving in one area of the plate that hadn’t been touched by us — without any explanation but passive aggressive attitude from the waiter.
Full review: My wife ordered Pad See Ew and it came out saucy but bland, as in the seasonings flavor was there but ZERO saltiness. She asked me to try it and I verified the same as she tasted. At this point we barely touched one corner of the dish for two bites where we also added chili sauce. So we politely asked our waitress if there’s any chance the cook might forgot to add salt/salt equivalent seasoning that’s supposed to be used in making the dish. Our waitress said “I don’t think so,” but took the plate back to the kitchen anyway to be “fixed”. She came out a minute later with the dish, blurred out a sentence that the dish was fine, placed it down to our table with a 2-oz. plastic container full of salt, and said “here I brought salt for you.” After the waiter left our table, we realized that it’s the same exact plate as we saw the chili sauce we had put on the dish remained as is. However, the dish was visibly touched in other part of the plate that we hadn’t touch prior being taken back to the kitchen. We were wondering whether the dish was touched and tasted by the waitress/the cook to confirm that the dish was “fine” while taken back to the kitchen then re-served back to us. We couldn’t think of another logical explanation on how else they could verify that the dish was “fine” otherwise. These thoughts went through our mind as we tried another bite of the dish from the same corner of the plate that we had touched and the dish still tasted saltless. We got grossed out but didn’t want to deal further with the situation, so we promptly asked for a to-go container after realizing what might just happened to the dish, paid the bill + tip although it didn’t deserve any as the only logical next step was to toss the remaining of the dish. This was certainly the opposite experience we had in mind coming into the restaurant. My wife had been craving Pad See Ew from this particular Madam Mam’s location that’s 1-hour drive from our home although there’s a closer location to our home. I went along anyway despite I already had dinner just because my wife had a fond memory of the restaurant from her college years. We had a subpar take-out experience from this Madam Mam’s location in the past, but we thought it’s just a fluke, and my wife still wanted to give it another try. Well, there’s not going to be...
Read moreDecent food but THE WORST customer service. My parents were in town for the day with my mom's service dog. Since we walked in and were not greeted, we decided to sit outside to be polite. It was midday, 90 degrees and very hot so we moved from our table in the sun to another table at the back in the shade. The table was covered with water so we had to clean and dry it off with our own tissues to seat ourselves. We were trying to enjoy our meal but we started getting attacked by aggressive mosquitoes and flies so I went inside again to ask for my parents and I to be seated inside. I looked around and the restaurant was very empty with only two other tables occupied, one family of four and a couple. I asked the manager behind the bar if my family could move to a corner booth because we were being bitten by mosquitoes outside. I showed her the fresh mosquito bites on my body and she looked at me blankly, hesitated, and then said no. I informed her that the dog is a service dog and would lay quietly under the table. She said no, the only way we could eat inside is if we left the dog chained up outside. Extremely cold attitude, super unhelpful and the waitress was a younger girl who at least smiled at us but not once did they come outside to check on us to see if we needed anything or to ask how we were enjoying the food. I've been dining at Madam Mams for 8 years but I will never come back to this location! Extremely...
Read moreOverall I'd say it's below average. The food is generally too salty and the food always has a stinky taste, and not in a good way. Many people around the area love it though, so it may be just my personal taste.
It's located on Guadalupe street, near the northwest area of UT campus across from the Communications bridge. There are many choices if you're craving Thai food, and their portions are large. The food quality of the food is sad though. I've been there multiple times and every time it's been too salty. Most recently, I've had the Drunken Noodles in the Stir Fry Noodles section and a Guay Teaw Tom Yum Moo. The Drunken Noodles were recommended by the waiter, but had way too much salt and msg. The Guay Teaw Tom Yum Moo was even worse. The spice was a little disappointing since I was expecting level 4 spice but it wasn't bad. Besides the fact that it was also too salty, there were too many little spices floating in the soup.It was impossible to eat any without getting a mouthful of peppercorn. The meat also tasted slightly stinky. I think I had to go to the restroom more than usual afterwards. Additionally, most (not all) of the servers there don't seem to care about the customers. They serve you up till they take your order, then essentially ignore you. You're better off getting Thai food from the Thai food truck. Currently located at the W 24th St. and Nueces St. intersection behind a...
