Trudy's, I truly am heartbroken. I have been coming to this Trudy's since 2004. It was an absolute MUST every time I would visit Austin. So many warm, fond memories were forged here. In fact, I was placed on the preferred customer list because the manager noticed that my friends and I came there 4 times, over the course of a weekend. I couldn't get enough of the food, friendly service and the drinks. Unfortunately, I have to report that it has gone straight down hill. I've noticed the past couple of times I've gone to Trudy's over the past couple of years that things seemed less than impressive. This past visit, it was like a ghost town in there at prime dinner hour on a Saturday night. I remember when I couldn't even get in the door whether it was fall, winter, spring or summer. That alone, spoke volumes. Then once seated, I ordered the Mexican Martini (remember, it was the drink Trudy's stated that they limited you to TWO because they were so potent). What I received tasted like watered down margarita mix with next to no tequila. My friend ordered a mojito and it looked and tasted like lemonade. There was literally no mint leaves, crushed lime or lime flavor for that matter. Again, he reported that it tasted like there was next to no liquor. My other two friends at the table reported the same caliber of issues with their drinks. We all ordered a second round with different drinks and it was the same type of problems. The Queso Especiale has gone downhill too. It used to be so delicious that my friend and I would eat a large bowl and then order another. This time, the 4 of us just barely finished one large bowl. It seemed very forgettable. The food was good but nothing like it used to be. There was no music and no energy in the place. The people I saw working the place seemed, forgive me, downright rough and sketch. Sorry, it's the truth. This isn't how it used to be. To me, it seems very obvious that what was once a great place, run with passion and a strict adherence to quality, has been either sold or handed down to another generation and they are just riding on the coat-tails and profit curve and the curve is slowly pointed straight towards the ground. It's sad to see this but time and time again, I see fantastic restaurants get handed off to people who only can see the dollar signs and the greed sets in. The corners start being cut while trying to either keep prices the same or raise them. PEOPLE DO AND WILL NOTICE THIS!!! I'm seeing all kinds of reviews on Google and Yelp that state similar notes. You people, over running Trudy's, need...
Read moreThis is NOTHING like the other Trudy's locations. We got right in (on a Friday night), hostess was sweet waitress was too. The food came out cold. Corn tortillas in the same container as flour (which completely defeats the purpose of avoiding flour). Everything was cold. The waitress was responsible for far too many tables for being so new and at no point asked us how our meal was. After we decided to stop eating, the manager came over and asked if we needed our waitress, rather than asking how our meal was/ if she could get us anything; like every other restaurant I've ever been to. While waiting for our check the table behind us (which was positioned within inches from ours) had their dinner disrupted by a leak in the cealing. So I guess we were the lucky ones. Overall, it appears they were trying to turn over tables faster than satisfying their current customers. Two stars was as generous as I could be and it's very hard to make me angry when I have Mexican martinis and cheese in front of me. I also think it's worth mentioning I eat out a lot and have had random negative experiences. However, I have never felt the need to publically review what...
Read moreI had went on a slow Saturday night, where there was only a few people and mainly just at the bar. We sat at a table and waited for a waiter to come by and take our drink order. Maybe like 10 minutes passed by till our waiter in that section notices we needed attending. Our drinks didn't take long to come out and so we spent some time browsing through the menu. It didn't take long to order since we already had in mind what we wanted. After waiting around for 20 minutes my wife had to get his attention for him to come by. The food didn't take too long to arrive and tasted great! But when we needed another refill, our waiter didn't come by unless we called him as he passed by to sit down and talk to other tables. At this point I had grown tired of waiting and requested for the check. It took him 10 minutes just to bring me the check, and glancing over to the back I could see him horsing around with the staff. This is by far the worst waiter I've had at Trudys. I can't complain about the food, and it's why I left 2 stars. But as far as the waiter, he was absolutely the worst. My waiters name was Marcel. We did more waiting that night than...
