Macayo's Mexican Food — Restaurant in Avondale

My mom and I dined at this location earlier this evening and it was by far the worst Macayos dine in experience we have ever had. My mom has been a patron of Macayos for years and I actually worked for the company for 4-5 years prior to their sale to Kind Hospitality when it was still owed and operated by the Johnson family.

We arrived at around 7pm and the restaurant was not very busy but we still sat at the table for at least 10 minutes prior to being approached by a server and asked for our drink order. My mom wanted to order the margarita flight but the server informed us that they were out of the glasses they use and so we could not order it. We then asked for water and Dr. Pepper. The server came back probably 3-5 minutes later telling us they are out of Dr. Pepper, so we just got waters only. About 5-8 minutes later we finally got our water and the chips and salsa. We ordered our food at this time, I ordered the red corn taquitos and asked for them to be brought out first before my entree- which did not happen and they came with my regular food. I had ordered the 2+2 Mex & Match and ordered two of my items as a Baja chicken enchilada and the tortilla soup with no avocado. I received a Baja spinach enchilada and tortilla soup with avocado. My mom ordered the fish tacos with beans only no rice (rice upsets her stomach and she can’t eat it). The plate came with rice that covered 80% of her refried beans making them inedible. I asked the server if we could get a separate side of refried beans to which the server then delivered us a side of black beans. All food mistakes were eventually corrected but by the time we received the correct food we had been there an hour just wanted to go home and packed 85% of it to go. When we got the bill, it still had the Dr. Pepper charges on it, which she did remove after asked.

Overall just was not a great experience and will likely never visit this...

Macayo's is my favorite place to eat. Period. I've been driving about 12 miles round trip to the Goodyear location for years, so imagine how delighted I was when I stumbled across their new Avondale location, just two miles from my house. Unfortunately for me, it opened the same week I started a new, very restrictive, very expensive diet. I held out for three weeks before declaring I deserved a cheat meal, and I went straight to Macayo's. The new location has nice decor, especially in the front entry. I was seated quickly and my server was at my table almost immediately. After ordering, I started looking around and was concerned with the amount of debris on the floor. It looked like they hadn't swept for a week. Ground up tortilla chips and a bunch of white, flakey stuff was everywhere. It took a while to see that the flakey stuff was actually coming up off the concrete floor, like a coating that started to peel. That doesn't excuse the tortilla chip debris. Speaking of chips, Macayo's is by far my fave for chips and salsa. I usually order some to go, but this time, I couldn't eat more than a handful because the mild sauce was burning a hole in my mouth. I even asked if she was sure this was mild because it was so hot. She said yes, and that the hot was 'way worse'. So, chips and salsa...ruined. My order came out so fast, I was really surprised. My burro was the size of my arm, so this location is not skimping on portion size at all. It was really good and I took half home along with my chips. I stopped at the dollar store for some salsa. I will still be a regular at this location, once my diet ends, and I hope they go to one of the other locations and learn hot to make the MILD salsa correctly. Worst service and food. Manager Judith didn't know if they had Al a cart. Had to check. Didn't get a menu just told the price. Didn't know about military discount. Then checked with someone. Said had to apply online & would get discount NEXT visit. Not tonight. Same with senior discount. Then said I couldn't get discount cuz I didn't order off senior menu. Wasn't given a senior menu. Had to ask 3 different employees for little plates and silverware. After our order came. Waiter toke my food away and little while later brought me senior menu. So I ordered a meal off it. Over 10 minutes later manager set a dish in front of me. Not what I ordered. So had to wait another 15 or more minutes to get the dish I ordered. I asked several times if it was going to be much longer. Said they didn't know. Went back into the back & never returned. It wasn't even hot. when i got meal. All 4 of us had to take our food home so we could heat them up. Manager toke our chips away when she brought out the dish I didn't order. We thought she was just going to bring us a full bowl. But she never returned. We had to ask another waiter for chips. Had to ask for more water. Had to ask how much longer for cheese crisp. There were 4 of us. 2 meals served. About 10 minutes later 3 persons food. And 20+ minutes for 4th meal. When we got the bill. They had charged us for 4 adultdinners...
