The owner was making the drinks and the employee was at the counter taking orders. I was impressed with the training and knowledge the employee had.
For me, going to a coffee shop is about the experience and part of that experience is having people who are knowledgable and passionate about coffee. Coffee is more than simply a job to them.
I asked about the coffee beans used because for 15 years I had a business in Seattle, the coffee capital of the world, where I commercially roasted coffee. Actually, I had the business for 27 years and began roasting coffee as an added product line after 12 years.
I also owned a travel business taking people on Coffee tours in what is known as the Bean Belt where all coffee is grown. My knowledge and passion for coffee is advanced.
When I asked about the beans used, the owner got defensive and no conversation was to be had. We placed our order and sat down.
My girlfriend went into the bathroom to use it and could not. When she came back and told the owner of the problem, he knew about the problem but had not time to take care of it.
We sat waiting for our coffee. Somehow, our order got given to someone else. It seemed to me the owner is trying to build a good coffee business but if just not well organized.
I enjoyed all the signs on the walls and on the floor even.
The coffee was Cuban style which means it is made with a lot of sugar added. I did not know it was a Cuban style coffee shop. For those who like the added sweetness, I can recommend the coffee made in this shop. It's just not for me.
I am on an adventure to find what is to my liking as the best indie coffee shop in Bakersfield. The reader can read some of my other reviews. When I find what to me is the best indie coffee shop, I will surely write a great review about it and I think it will be a shop that most true coffee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance last weekend. I went on a Saturday around 11:30 AM and the place was packed. I asked the staff about the ube Vietnamese iced coffee I had seen on their social media and the girl at the counter pointed to a flyer showing drinks made with ube cold foam.
I asked what type of milk was in it and she told me it was dairy-free aside from a small amount of condensed milk drizzled on the cup, which I can tolerate. I decided to order it and paid the $2 upcharge for the ube cold foam. My total was $8.66.
However, when I got my drink, there was no bright purple ube foam like the photos. I didnāt want to make a fuss, especially since it was so busy, so I convinced myself that maybe it was mixed in or drizzled on the side of the cup.. but I definitely didnāt get what I paid for.
A couple days later I went back to give them another chance hoping for a better experience. This time a different employee helped me and when I ordered the same drink, she asked if I wanted a milk alternative. I was confused since the first person told me it was already dairy-free (aside from the condensed milk). She explained that the drink usually comes with whole milk, but they could substitute oat milk for an extra $1.
That made me question the accuracy of the information I was given the first time. In total I ended up paying $9.74 for a 16oz drink with oat milk ā which just feels way overpriced given the confusion, lack of consistency, and the fact that I didnāt even get the ube cold foam the first time.
The coffee itself tasted good, but the experience left a lot to be desired. I really wanted to love this spot but the inconsistencies and pricing made it hard to justify...

Coffee dates, coffee mugs, coffee signs, coffee drinks and coffee trails are definitely an adventure so I couldnāt agree more with the name of this cafe, Adventure Awaits Coffee.
First, the barista at this cafe was probably the friendliest one in Bakersfield. As I write this I realize I need to start getting names of these awesome folks who create my cortados. Secondly, the shop has a ton of natural light and makes it a lovely spot to work remotely from or chat it up with a friend. The fun part of this cafe are all the coffee signs throughout it. You know the signs; the ones with clever sayings that make you wonder if the maker was reading your mind or has an inside scoop to your life. These signs were so captivating even my 20 year old non-coffee drinker (bless his heart) was enjoying and pointing out the signs. Most importantly, the cortado was tasty and I would definitely return to this shop!
Enjoying life one...
