I've been to the Hoagies in Pismo several times. It's nice to get a little bit of Pismo beach in Bakersfield. When we arrived around 7 the place was pretty busy. We sat at the bar so we didn't have to wait for a seat at a table. We waited somewhere between 5-10 minutes before I finally flagged someone to help us. It seemed very chaotic and not really organized yet. We ordered and shared the pastrami sandwich with onion rings, chili cheese fries as an appetizer and a beer for me (805) and a margarita for the wife. Food was really good. The margarita I believe was wine based since they did not have a liquor license. My wife said it was decent but not a great margarita. Hopefully they will get a liquor license! They brought the appetizer the same time as our meal which was fine I guess but not really an appetizer now. As we ate it was slightly disturbing as waiters and waitresses were yelling people's names trying to find and deliver food. I thought this was odd since they gave us a number even at the bar. When I finished my one beer I again had to grab someone's attention to get another beer after sometime because no one ever checked on us unless I started waving my hand. Another couple sat next to us at the bar and also had the same problem and had to grab a workers attention to also get drinks. All in all still a great place that probably just needs to work out some kinks since they literally opened like a week ago. The staff were all very friendly. We will be back to try some...
Read moreWe shared the Pismo Beach wrap, and we give it an A+. Sooooo good!!! It's big enough for 2 people to share. The hostess who took our order was excellent. Very friendly and very helpful, but our server basically placed our dishes on our table, mumbled sorry it took so long, and walked away without asking if we wanted ketchup or anything to go with our fries. I tried to call her but she kept going. It took a while to get our food. I don't know if it was just sitting there because when we got it, the fries were cold. They are curly fries, and they were absolutely delicious. But they were lukewarm. Which to me means that our food must have sat there for a while before she picked it up. It wasn't busy that day either. Maybe they were shorthanded, I don't know. But the food was so good and the barbecue sauce was wonderful. We will definitely be going back. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes and their happy hour. When you walk inside, there's a hostess that takes your order, and you pay before you sit down, then they give you a number to put on your table. It has a fun and casual atmosphere with lots of TVs. They also have a bar if you want to sit at the bar instead of at a table. Most of the tables they have are the tall chairs. If you prefer a regular height chair, there's some in the back. They also have...
Read moreAs a long-time fan of the Pismo Beach location, I was excited to finally visit the Bakersfield branch over the weekend. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I had come to expect.
I arrived early on a Saturday to avoid the crowds, but even with minimal customers, the service was lackluster and the wait time was surprisingly long, considering I was the second person to order.
I ordered the fish and tots, along with a bowl of chili. Unfortunately, the fish and tots were disappointing—the tots and fish tasted of old grease, leaving an overwhelmingly greasy aftertaste. As a fan of tots, I found them to be some of the worst I've ever had.
The chili was equally disappointing. I didn’t taste it until I got home, and was horrified by its off-putting, fermented flavor. It was clear that the chili had been sitting for too long and had lost its freshness.
In comparison, the Pismo location consistently delivers excellent food, so this experience was a letdown. I hope the Bakersfield location will address these quality control issues, as I would hesitate to return based...
