Huevo House — Restaurant in Bakersfield

I’m here to share my experience this morning. My husband seen a big rat run across the ceiling pillars at this location and we warned customers that were sitting below and near where the rat was at so that they are aware. The manager asked “what’s going on?” And my husband stated that he seen the rat run across and that they needed to know. The manager went on to say that she’s been there years and never seen a rat and that they are very clean. My husband told her that they clean the tables and floors but not the ceilings, rarely looking up. She apologized to the customers and makes it seem as if we’re lying telling them exactly what she told us. My husband confronted her and told her that he seen what he seen and asked if she thought he was lying. She said “no” but when we got our tab they didn’t accommodate to our experience and still tried making us pay full price when we hardly touched our food due to being DISGUSTED but my kids had ate everything on their plate. When my husband asked our server for the manger to discount us AT LEAST, when we should’ve walked out, she wouldn’t approach us and i seen her from a distance rolling her eyes when our server had left her know our concerns. She did take my kids food off the tab but still made us pay for the food that we barely took any bites out of. I didn’t want us to be the center of attention anymore due to me being pregnant and stressed out now cause of this experience!! I did let them know that I’ve been in the food industry for 9 years and hold a food service mangers cert that I will be calling the health department on them this morning. TL;DR: Highly recommended. Customizable food options, friendly staff who check in, cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you're escaping Downtown Bakersfield.

Huevo House was an absolute treat. Walking in I was taken aback by the environment, it felt like I was escaping the rush of downtown. The atmosphere has the feel of an old timey restaurant but with a modern feel with the myriad pieces of art across the walls and the decor. I was seated pretty quickly despite coming in at the peak of lunch on a Friday.

I ordered the chicken chipotle melt with fries. The wait wasn't awful and the food was delightful. The filling of the sandwich felt generous and the fries were reminiscent of Checkers (which is some of the highest praise I can give). I was even offered a complimentary coffee cake for it being their one week opening. Not too big but just enough to scratch that sweet tooth.

The menu is large and a lot of the items sounded tempting. I was also informed that you can customize many of the items on the menu with like a fried egg or hard boiled egg for example. Fitting for a place with this name.

Staff were friendly and attentive without feeling overbearing.

On November 17, 2024, at approximately 2:10 p.m., a group of at least ten of us arrived at your establishment for the first time. Upon entering, we observed one of your female staff members rolling her eyes and sighing audibly. She then approached the cook, who turned to look at us and shook his head. This behavior was witnessed by all members of our party. As a result of this incident, we felt unwelcome and decided to leave the restaurant. As we were exiting, one of your servers informed us that a table was ready for us. She had mistakenly assumed that we were leaving due to the wait time. We explained to her the incident that had occurred upon our arrival. During our conversation with the server, the manager/owner of the restaurant stood at the door observing us but did not approach us to inquire about the situation.
