Let's get into it!!!!! Ooooo weeeee!!! Blacksauce Kitchen is the truth. The menu changes daily so let's get into Thursdays (Aug 17th) menu choices. We ordered 1 of everything left on the menu: Oxtail biscuit, doubles, mac, cabbage, cobbler, fritters, sorrel and limeade. We stayed inside the restaurant to make sure we tasted everything fresh and hot. They have one table and a bar top with stools for dining in.
10/10 my favorite was the cabbage. Perfect seasoning, heat, cook - no complaints whatsoever. I could eat a pot full.
9/10 my second favorite was the oxtail biscuit. The picture below speaks for itself. Ghr biscuit was PERFECTION!! I could've used some kind of sauce or wetness on the oxtail. The fried onions were on point.
8.5/10 the fritters were great. The each chow chow gave it that extra edge. Because it was served in a recyclable container all the chose chow juices were absorbed in the container. J think it should be served in plastic. Or foil placed in the container.
7/10 the Mac was good. 8/10 Sorrel was great. We actually created a half and half of sorrel and limeade and that was fire 10/10. The doubles were good but could've been cooked longer. The only thing we weren't fans of was the smoked cobbler. Wag too much smoke for my taste. The smokey flavor overwhelmed the cobbler.
Most definitely going back to hit...
Read moreSoooooo goood! I grew up in Tennessee, recently relocated to Baltimore, and I cannot tell you how much my husband and I just crave a good breakfast biscuit sandwich sometimes (without my whole morning being lost to cooking). We happened upon BlackSauce at the Waverly Farmer's Market this summer, and were immediately taken with the familiar & familial vibe! The breakfast sandwiches never fail! And the limeades! Not too sweet, so refreshing! The only downside was they were catching on quickly and we sometimes couldn't get there early enough to avoid the long line. Lo and behold, a brick and mortar!! With the option of ordering online! Boom! The atmosphere was great! Yes, there was a wait, and food took a bit longer than expected, but 1) it was well worth it, 2) the food is obviously in demand, 3) they're doing the lord's work feeding us love on a saturday morning, and 4) if a year and a half in this pandemic didn't teach you a bit of patience and compassion, perhaps you need not rely on others to lovingly make you food. I didn't ask, and I could be totally wrong, but it appears to be a family run business, with all hands on deck. Even the teens are involved! You love to see it. Excited for them, and I cannot wait to try them...
Read moreDo you ever find yourself wondering if you should walk out or keep hoping your food arrives at some point? . It took over an hour for a preordered pickup. They apologized to the 2 Men in front of me for their wait--but not to me. Sexism much? Nah, I guess I should have just sucked it up and smiled more.. It's not like my wait mattered. I'm just a woman. Oh and 2 of the items I had ordered were not available. But I could "come back another day for them or order something else," No refunds available. As long as I remained polite, friendly, and understanding eventually I would be rewarded with some under cooked cold food and some overcooked tasteless pizza. MMmm cold taters and limp pizza thrown in a box. I'm bummed I had this experience. I've heard so many good things...
