DO NOT EAT HERE! My fiancé and I went out to eat here this past Friday night the 6th and it was the worst dining experience we’ve ever encountered.
I took my fiancé who is from out of town to this restaurant because he’s never been to The Harbor and the other Blackwall Hitch restaurants were pretty good, so I thought this one would be as well. We ordered the salmon and After waiting an extremely long time for our this entree, the waiter brings out the salmon and upon cutting it open, we realized that the salmon was completely raw inside. We could not find our waiter for over 15 minutes and had to eventually ask another waitress if she could locate him to return the salmon to the kitchen to be fully cooked. Then after another 10 minutes, our original waiter finally comes back to the table, picks up the plate of salmon, looks at it and says, “oh wow sorry about the Salmon it’s definitely raw, I’ll bring you another one”. So we were patiently waiting for the new salmon but it took over 35 mins for them to bring a new plate of salmon and it’s starting to get late and they’re even turning off some of the lights towards the back end of the restaurant. So we decided that we’d just get the salmon to go as the restaurant was starting to close and the food both times took extremely long.
So finally the waiter comes back and we ask him if we can get it wrapped to go because it took an incredibly long time and the restaurant is closing and we’d like to make it to our other plans. The waiter seemingly had an attitude and was like “okay that’s fine I’ll just comp the salmon for you” and we were very appreciative. He said he needed to check with his manager first. Then he comes back and said his manager said no, we cannot get the food comped and if we’d like to take it to go then we’ll have to pay for it even though it took extremely long and the first one was raw and inedible. So we asked to speak to the manager and he had the worst customer service we’ve ever experienced in a dining restaurant. I explained to him the series of events and especially the raw salmon and notified him that I have a gastrointestinal disease and that could’ve made me extremely sick and this is how he responded and I quote, “well that is a risk you take when you go to a restaurant”.
That was the most rudest and disgusting response I have ever heard in all of my life from a manager. We never asked for the food to be comped, until the waiter brought it up, and we were upset about the raw food and the extremely long wait for both plates of food, mind you the restaurant was not packed at all. As a person who works within the health industry, this could’ve made me extremely sick and then it would’ve been an entirely different discussion. The callousness and total disregard from this manager, was the worst I’ve experienced. I would highly caution people to stay FAR AWAY from this establishment.
If you’re looking for a more professional and respectful Black Wall Hitch restaurant, go to the one in Annapolis. That one is supremely well run and the manager is very kind and friendly and came out to greet us while we were eating and was so pleasant. This one needs to be shut down or needs new management that actually care about people’s...
Read moreWe came in on a not too busy Saturday afternoon. On a 12:15p.m. reservation, We were seated at our table up stairs toward the corner of the stairwell(For 2). Seated for about 12 minutes without a server without water, without being acknowledged. We both noticed my partner and I, The servers conjugating along the upstairs bar with the (Manager) and downstairs with the host (at the host station). Finally now after a noticeable 18 or so minutes. A server (Nyga) finally comes our way with water. She places the water on our table (never opening it and pouring) as she greets us. She ask are we ready to put in drinks(?) We both had the house resiling. Along with the tuna tartare and fried green tomatoes for starters. Accompanied with the crab benedict (ovr. med/hard) and the traditional benedict (ovr. easy).(Nyga) smiled after confirming our order and making a statement or asking a question(?) “Ya’ll want it to come out all together(?) we both looked puzzled a bit, we thought we indicated we would start with apps; Then have our entrees. After about 11 or so minutes our apps were delivered, by the same manager. We noticed earlier “prattling” with her staff while we waited for service. Presentation was very nice. Visually stunning as well as tasty. Fried tomatoes were crispy not “mushy” and tartare wasn’t over powered with avocado or “evo”. When our entrees arrived “we both traded off on our benedicts” A 1for1 when I sliced into the traditional benedict. I noticed the sausage was undercooked and eggs were too “easy” the crab benedict, Was tasty but a bit underwhelming. The presentation was nice but the breakfast potatoes. Tasted as if they were cooked prior, placed in a side dish along the heat lamp(with onions/green peppers added freshly). The benedict itself mushy, wet but manageable. The traditional was picked through due to it being undercook. When the dishes where being collected (Nyga) asked what would we rate the meal(?) I politely said “8, knowing it was a hard 4” he said 7- knowing it was a hard 3. All in all ambience was totally comfortable and dish presentation was nice. it’s a 6 at best, but for service as far as initiation and greeting it was about a 4. Perhaps dinner would be a better time, When the meals are taking a bit more serious, whereas Saturday brunch seems a bit too “lax”. Btw it was a dog seated upstairs with another patron. Which was very uncomfortable due to barking and well “pet dander” that flies about the air. I understand for (outdoor) seating but inside on a falls day ..Totally...

The Black Walnut Manhattan embodied the namesake flavor without overpowering the essence of the classic Manhattan...and this is coming from an Old-Fashioned drinker. I didn't catch the name of the gin drink, but it was described as gin, fig, lemon, and thyme, and it was both savory and incredibly refreshing.
I paired the truffle mushroom flatbread with the cheese grits in the picture, and they were a surprisingly good combination. The sharp cheese grits came nearly whipped, while retaining the cornmeal texture, and were among the best grits I've ever had. Many truffle oil recipes fail either to showcase the truffle or to use it as an accent, which ends up turning the truffle oil into a dissatisfyingly oppressive, overpowering, and mediocre wash of flavor. However, the truffle oil was showcased beautifully here, accented by the texture of shiitake mushrooms on a base white flatbread. The earthiness of the truffle oil also complemented the cheese grits unexpectedly well.
My wife had a beautifully fresh arugula, pear, and burrata salad, simply dressed with a strong, aged balsamic vinegar, and accompanied by an amazing and fresh crab cake. The crab cake was soft yet firm on the inside, with a crispy yet lightly-fried shell, and no fishy taste at all. (Even our picky four-year old enjoyed the crab cake!)
The dessert was decadent without being overlarge and heavy. The triplet of locally-sourced pistachio, honey graham, and cookie dough ice cream scoops were to die for. And I mean all three, though the honey graham was to die for. We also shared an incredible raspberry cheesecake which would have been the equal to anything in NYC. We were in heaven.
Finally - and equally importantly - the service was bar none. Our server, Alisha (sorry if we got the spelling wrong!) was awesome. Attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, we had a blast chatting with her throughout the meal. And her literal (and unconscious) singsong accents in her speech were truly the cherry on on top of the cake. A beautiful accompaniment to one of the best meals we've ever had (and we travel a LOT!).
Truly a hidden gem, as it appeared fairly low in the Google search results. We've already saved the restaurant as a favorite and can't...
